Diesel Engine Conversion for '83 Mk2 Honda Accord. But What?
Discussion
Looking for some suggestions from those who might know a bit more...
I have a 1983 Mk2 Honda Accord. It is in reasonable condition body wise, wee bit of rust, paint could be improved. But the engine is buggered... needs a new cam, carb is gone and it's getting hard to track down parts.
I also have family connections who work with diesel engines and so I'm considering a diesel swap. I just don't know what would fit? Ideally something a bit more modern with a bit of punch would be nice. But then I know you'd be getting into the realms of an ECU and all of the associated electronic/sensor problems that come with it.
Just looking for some suggestions if anyone's tried it, or those with more knowledge.
It's a beautiful car and I'd love to get it out driving.

I can’t see that it is worth doing.
Plenty of accords with the 2.2 diesel engine for sale around d £2 to £3k. This one is £1,200

The hassle involved in fitting a modern diesel into an older petrol car (which already has some rust) makes it a no go when you can buy a more modern version with a factory diesel engine.
Welcome to PH. If you do go ahead with the conversion then start a readers cars thread to document it.

The accord is fwd whilst the BMW is rwd; that would not be an easy swap unless I am missing something.
It's not that I couldn't just get a more modern car. I just like the idea of preserving something older while making it more driveable for me.In terms of rust, it's nothing that couldn't be taken back and/or welded in the worst bits. I was going to get it resprayed paint wise anyway.
But yes, FWD to RWD is a no... was thinking more along the lines of a VW PD with a stand alone ECU but not sure if you can get such a thing.
(Also, it's the coupe. Hadn't mentioned that)
