How long will it last? Aprilia V4 1100 Engine
Discussion
So I bought it new in late December 21 having owned two previous and clocking about 20-21k on each
This one due to timing of the new one coming out meant it was easier to buy it at the end of the agreement
I did a year extended warranty, had the 600, first minor, first major and second minor service done by global Moto before they closed shop
Now all major work done by an Aprilia specialist. The minor service I've just done myself
In the near 4 years I've had a radiator under warranty due to a small crack (I'm sure it was me doing wheelies but they approved it). A right grip that cracked from the sun, a fuel gauge sensor and that's it
Maintenance I've needed to do (and I'll ignore tyres or pads as that's ridiculous) is;
Chain and sprockets at 11,000 (original chain is junk)
Clutch at 23,000 miles. Surprised me this as others were fine but this one always felt a bit funky
EBC HD fitted
Another chain and sprocket at 31,000. The other chain was still ok and sprockets being steel were fine but I felt 20k of hard riding was it's time
On its last service circa 32,500 I did the air filter... Wow for £12 quid if you do your own servicing do this every time!!
About to do another tour and ride to IOM. I'll be on about 34,000 miles by then. It made me think given its the last of the 1077cc version... How long will the engine last
Best I've seen on an Aprilia forum was 49,000 before it went bang. I forget the reasons but Gabro a very well renowned Aprilia guru backed this by saying the engine has about a 50,000 service life
Mine uses a bit of oil, maybe 100-200ml every couple of hard rides and I'll do 150+ on a ride easy. I thought I'll just add to this every so often to see what I can get before I either sell it, crash it or blow it up

I’d probably budget for a refresh at 45k. New bearings, rings, cam chain and a check over at that point will probably see it do another 45k.
What do Gabro say generally happens? I’d guess bearing trouble leading to a spun rod and possible crank damage.
If you don’t give the rods any excuse to move about (most likely because of worn bearings) you should never damage the engine beyond economic repair.
Give John a call at Bikers World. He’ll tell you when to either do a refresh or sell.
