Hi all,

We currently own 4 x cars, a track car and a daily each for me and my other half,

We are also in the process of buying our first house together, therefore we need to free up some cash and thin down some expesenses. I will be getting my partner a Skoda yeti, 170tdi 4x4 to replace her 2002 Land cruiser Colorado, I currently have a GR Yaris, previously a M2Comp.

Im looking for a daily driver to replace the Yaris, budget 20-25k

Im currently looking at a golf R mk7.5, preferably manual (or a wagon). I need it to be fun, semi practical and relatively quick. My drive is 20 miles daily on a mix of b roads and a roads, doesn't need to be the most engaging thing as we have a full track spec 182 (Cage, bukets, AST, LSD etc) and a 'clubsport' E46 M3.

MPG, service costs are somewhat important, although I know performance cars aren't cheap to run,

What else would people suggest? Or is the golf the best option.

Other options are non comp m4/m2, although running costs notably higher

Wildcard is a e9x M3, a dream car for me, but I'm guessing would be ruinous to run daily

Also wouldn't really be interested in anything FWD that weighs over 1100kg

Jimbo.

As I get older I find Japanese cars ever more appealing for daily drivers, simply because they work, and you can count on them to work on that wet, cold Monday morning in February. So, whilst not _quite_ what you’ve outlined, how about a Civic Type-R, saving a few quid from the budget to allow for a service, set of tyres etc? Or a late Impreza/WRX?

Would prefer something newish with some boring things like heated seats and apple carplay for the daily, its a commuter 75% of the time.

S2000 would be cool though, massive fan of them

The Golf R is hard to beat but I would maybe lean toward a Clubsport with your budget.
If wagon then maybe consider the Leon Cupra too.

With your budget you can get

  • Very low mileage 7.5 GTI
  • Low mileage R
  • All the variants, Cupra, S3 and VRS
  • Older ED40
  • The newer TCR
  • The even newer Golf 8.0 Clubsport
