With Santander stcanning their 123 account, and the edge accounts barely stacking up with their charges. Does anyone recommend any alternatives?

I have seen zopa, zero fees, 2% cash back.

It's only a couple of quid a month but equally, if people don't move it doesn't drive a competitive market.

I have a Zopa savings account and got an early current account (just to get the 7.5% monthly saver) but haven’t used it. Love Zopa though, good rates and pots that make it easy to allocate savings to certain things.

Chase will pay 1% cashback up to £15 a month on groceries, everyday transport and fuel if paying by debit card. You need to fund it £1,500 every month though.

I do already have a chase account, though dormant. Was more interested in cashback on direct debits/bills, though I should have been clearer.

We will do a transfer to First Direct in a month.
Been with Santander (Abbey National) for *many* decades, but they have show. there is nothing for loyalty, & their account options are pretty awful now: might as well take a nice £175 bonus plus a higher rate (& amount) regular saver.

There's no loyalty with any main banks, in fact I don't think there ever was. I've been with Nat West for over 45yrs and not had any 'incentives'. Whilst I get the 'rewards' which is somewhat limited cashback it never seems to amount to over a fiver and then knock off the £3 monthly charge. So I'm £2 up a month rolleyes

As said Banks seem not to understand the word loyalty.
I’m with Lloyds - then Lloyds Private - for a total of I think 47 years and the only “special “ I have is the current account being linked by an automatic daily sweep to a savings account.
Extremely useful maybe although the savings rate then offered is hardly the best.

I’m also a Lloyds Private client. Apart from the sweep you mention I get very valuable travel insurance for me and Mrs BC, mobile phone insurance and basic AA breakdown cover. You must be getting similar?

Yes should have mentioned those ( had forgotten about the mobile phone insurance ) although not why I stay with them.
The basic AA cover is just that and sits alongside specific family cover from them or specific car cover anyway.
Thankfully never had to use the Travel insurance to claim and on “ big holidays “ I tended to usually get specific trip cover.
Do you have to register phones to get cover or just wait until a loss ?!

The travel insurance works very well. I had to claim for 2 expensive pre booked holidays when my mum got a terminal prognosis. cry

You have to register the phone on their website or app, not difficult but needs to be done.

Sorry about your Mum.
Will bear the travel insurance in mind for the future.
Noted on the phone - thanks.
