We've had a Hotpoint 'fridge for about 15 years. It's always sang but now it's the 'fridge equivalent of AC/DC
You can here it in the next room, it's constant, it's f-ing annoying.

Any recommendations for a replacement please? Needs to be about1700mm high or higher and no wider than about 850mm but preferably 600mm
Thanks

Have you tried pushing/pulling the thingy at the back? Most noises are caused by this being slightly loose and vibrating. Are the feet evenly adjusted?

Mine's an Indesit and chirrups like a small bird all night, so don't get one of those.

Yes it's level and everything is tight. I think when we got it a few reviews mentioned the singing, it's just got louder over the years.
If you can imagine the rumblings of a disturbed stomach ......

Mine sometimes starts making a high pitched squeal. Then, if I turn it off at the wall, the squealing gets higher and higher in pitch, over about a minute. Then it stops. Turn it back on and ut remains silent.

It does that every couple of months maybe. It must be a build up of trapped air or something I assume.

Auto-defrost?

I am going to take a guess that these are fanless auto-defrost units? If so that's your problem. It's a case of "they all do that sir".

Auto-defrost?
Yes, it is.

The fridge section works fine. You can see frost forming, then you see it melt and the water runs towards a little hole and down a pipe and into a little tray.

But the freezer section still ices up so I do have to defrost that every 6 months maybe, maybe even longer.

Is the squealing common then for auto defrost types ?

Maybe that's because you turn it off when it's starting to defrost... let it run and see what happens.

Mine is auto-defrost and every so often it makes all sort of weird noises.

Also I discovered that you can't keep ice cubes in an ice tray - they sublime away!

Recently got a Fisher & Paykel Fridge Freezer and it is absolutely silent.

The only time it makes any noise is when it drops the ice cubes it has made into the tray.

Just bought a Bosch Series 4 - silent. The only time I've heard it was in the heatwave when it was obviously struggling a little, we heard the occasional glug or fart.

I could easily mask the occasional "glug & fart", wife would think it was me laugh This thing is 24/7.
