M&S prices

BBQ food was on the cards, 600G of marinated caesar chicken

They've had to turn the screw because of debt refinancing and the resulting much higher interest bills.

‘twas ever thus. However, their clothes used to be high quality and durable, if a little dull. Then they drifted into food ,again somewhat above average but they have now gone too far ( other posters understand why in business terms) but they could be hoisted by their own petard.

I bought a couple of fillet steaks in M & S recently and they were £20 each

You've got to be selective with what you buy from M&S Food but it is very good quality but they overcharge for some stuff when other products are really good value/quality.

Their steak pricing is a joke but their pork is good and so much better than the other supermarkets as example.

Yep, I get my ham and chicken from there but the rest from Tescos.
What I have noticed since the ‘cost of living crisis’ items don’t go up by 10p or 20p anymore it’s 50p at least and that goes for Tescos and M&S. One example in Tescos in recent weeks is 3 car cleaning fibre cloths, was £2.50 now gone up to £3. M&S packs of ham for ages was 3 packs for £8, now two packs for £6.50.

Err, if it’s expensive, shop somewhere else. It’s called supply and demand.

Err i did....although i did find some other chicken half price lol.

A local butchers would be cheaper than M&S and wont get comprismised by a bunch of 13 year old russian hackers

How many Tescos do you have to visit to source everything else you need? Since you're visiting multiple of the same supermarket chain, perhaps it would be easier to try another brand of supermarket?

They’re all taking the piss out of us. But I think M&S seem to price so that even when item is reduced on the last day (due to date), they’re still making at that point a ‘normal’ profit.

Unfortunately food inflation doesn't seem to be abating.

Only a few months ago I could buy Waitrose 24 (small) meatballs as part of the 3 for £12 meat offer.

Then they removed them from the offer and upped the standard price from £5.50 to £6.50.

Interesting they've now dropped the price down to £6. Still too much when they were essentially £4 as part of the offer.

As another poster has mentioned, price's don't seem to creep up anymore but instead jump up.

Exactly this.

Some very good quality stuff at very reasonable prices but buy the "wrong" thing and you'll pay for it.

Beef is up 24% over the first half of the year.

That's the point though.

Stuff like Salmon can be £7/pack but is often on 2 for £10.

It's a bit of the "DFS Sale" thing IMO you just need to shop smart

I agree on the wider comments about food inflation. It has been rampant for a long time now. I was never in a position to shop in M&S for food really, but even the lower mid market has seen prices soar in the post covid era and those very rare visits to M&S or Waitrose for treats or in an attempt to find better quality have all but disappeared.

I’m very aware there remain a huge number of cash rich buyers out there and I hope for Marks’ sake they remain relatively price insensitive. It’s got to be troubling times for Marks since their IT event. Click and Collect only resumed a few weeks ago. This must have cost them hundreds upon hundreds of millions.

M and S basics through Ocado such as bread, milk, eggs, cheese are competitively priced and quality is up there with the best.
