Watched it for the first time.

No heart
No soul
Poor dialogue
Poor humour
Almost no plot and what there was of it was very disjointed
Too long

Typical Bond movie really - but I did wonder why I watched it.

Can't agree with you there, Eric. This was an atypical Bond movie. The 'plot' crossed the line between the 'willing a suspension of disbelief' you expect from a Bond film to just plain stupid. The CGI was laughable and the Halle Berry character (Jinx) was far too strong (in the sense that it detracted from Bond).

I'm a fan of Bond films, but don't rate this film. So in that sense, it can't be a typical Bond film (if you see what I mean).

I agree with your points but I thought it was typical in that the plot narrative was somewhat disjointed and subservient to the special effects.
Also, although Bond movies were always fanciful and full of high tech gadgets, I thought some of the technology demonstrated was too far fetched and not really rooted in known science or technology.
This is not the first time a Bond movie has strayed too far from what is just about possible technically. "Moonraker" back in 1979 was also pretty unbelievable and, in my opinion, the worst Bond movie ever.

The only interesting part was the section where he was incarcerated in the North Korean prison which showed Bond in a very vulnerable position - something rarely seen in Bond movies.

I really do think that the Bond premise is looking very tired these days. Perhap it is time for Bond to hang up his Walther PPK.

Indeed. I agree with your whole post, Eric, so won't bother quoting it.

I concur that the current format has run it's course. However, I think the forthcoming 'Casino Royale' set in the past with Bond as a younger, less experienced agent and a return to Fleming's book-based Bond might have some mileage. We'll have to wait and see on that, I think.

Edit: Unless I have misunderstood / got confused with reports of a "young Bond" film and it is a separate project to the forthcoming 'Casino Royale'

Yep, it may revive the whole franchise, if it's done properly.

Poor continuity, even if ITV didn't cut bits out to fit into their reality TV show schedule.

Agreed , not the best Bond film ever. The CGI and dissapearing Vanqush really let it down. The plot was average and the villians tried to be to villany.
Hopefully Casino Royale, will try to hark back to the days of From Russia With love, of quality performances (Red Grant - Robert Shaw) and an interesting believable plot.
We should be hearing from EON this week or next who the next Bond will be! My money is still on Daniel Craig (sorry already done this on another thread).

One good thing about D.A.D was that I managed to sneak around Pinewood during the filming.

Here's Halle B's stunt double climbing aboard the Speed boat after her swallow dive off the Cuban clinic island.

Some of the different Vanqusihes they used during filming.

the disappearing aston didn't let it down for the obvious reasons.

it let the franchise down as a whole because whats better than a car that disappears? its the ultimate gadget! it leaves nothing for future cars for future films cause you've just aced it.

Why do you need a stunt double to get in a boat?

I believe that section of the film, although updated, was from one of Flemings bond books, but was not used when that particular book was turned into a film.

Having seen each of the 20 bond films over and over again, Die Another Day truly is an awful film.

Repeatedly there are unnecessary plot inclusions (such as the rocket car).

The CGI is truly horrendous - I have to close my eyes during the kite surfing bit, and the scene as Bond drives up to the ice hotel looks as though a postcard image of the eden prodect has just been sellotaped onto the frame!

Product placement is increasingly annoying. In this film Bond is seen to have a bottle of Bollinger Special Cuvee in his hotel room. A £25 bottle of wine for a man who normally only drinks champagnes such as Dom Perignon or Bollinger R.D. Good grief.

And the Bond plots don't have to be realistic (after all virtually none of them are) but they have to be 'believed' by the audience. This film fails on this count.

I watched this the other night on DVD, I seen it at the cinema, but on second viewing, it was as bad as I thought, I don't know, maybe I have grown out of the childish plots/dialogue/stunts, as they're clearly aimed squarely at the 12 rated audience. Very tired, very staid now (The 1st few do stand the test of time, and are always enjoyable)
Die Another Day, however,, had worse SFX/plot/everything than the very average made-for-grunge-rock-kiddies flick XXX!
I always loved the fact that Bond is the ice cool Englishman, with clever quips, but now, I prefer the Jason Bourne movies, they are everything the first Bond movies were, updated and edgier.
