Hello fellow PHrs
Looking for some advice from those who know about roofs.
House is circa 30 years old and 2 1/2 years ago had the roof verge repaired along with the ridge tiles re bedded and pointed.
I was in the loft looking at the ducting for the extractor fan and noticed it had come away. However, on closer examination there were several bulges in the felting along the apex with many holes of varying sizes. On feeling these, it was clear that there was solid material underneath.
I managed to get my hand in one and lots of rubble came out some very large pieces- I will attach some photos.
I suspect that it is the old pointing that has been thrown in. Is it normal for this to occur when re seating ridge tiles on a modern house?
I have contacted the company who did the work and he is saying that his workers would not have done this and must have pre existing. Very defensive although coming to look and I suspect will deny.
However full survey when we bought the house 9 years ago said roof felt was in good condition and this is the only work we have had on the roof.
Any advice much appreciated
Cheers

It's fairly obvious what the lazy gits have done but short of clearing it out yourself I don't know what can be practically suggested.
Not like you'd want them back pulling it apart even if they'd do it 30 months later.
I am certain that is what they have done although I don’t see why I should have to pay for repairs to damage that they have caused. Not like you'd want them back pulling it apart even if they'd do it 30 months later.
In some places the felt is very badly damaged and I suspect some new will be needed which could be expensive.
I am no expert but I imagine that the ridge tiles will have to come off along with a few rows of tiles.
I will be getting another company to have a look in any event.

Maybe it was old mortar used to fill gaps and it never bonded/got pushed back.
The bits look much more like it's all the waste from removing the ridge just dumped into a convenient space not anything that was unbonded. Extra clue is what it did to the felt when dumped.
Much easier than collecting it and carrying it back down.
