Got a 3R at the moment and toying with idea of moving to an M400 - but is it worth it for me? Here are the facts:

1. Don't go on a track with it.

2. Things that disappoint me about 3R (great car that it is) are...

- turning circle
- grounding
- non-hugging seats
- not much happening after 5,000 revs

So...is M400 likely to address these issues, and is greater power of any value away from the track?

Should add that I haven't driven an M400.

Any informed opinions greatly received.

I still have a full party going off after 5k revs in my 3R! Right up to 6k+

I got the factory to put me in the lasest map on my car when I bought it second hand. Mine is number R118 so I wonder if you might benifit from that map too?

- turning circle
Yep - the M400 can easily "get around" as well as my X5 or a normal car.

- grounding
There isn't the front splitter so that helps

- non-hugging seats
The sparcos hug like a little huggy monster thing

- not much happening after 5,000 revs
It's still happening at 6800rpm

So - when you placing your order

Go on, you know you want to.

Justin and I did the swap, and no regrets.

The handling is a dream and the gear selector is just unbeleivable.

I've gone from a 3R to a 400

Main positive points are:

- Probably better residuals long term, this is the final evolution of the M12 chassis.. as far as we know..

- All the little 3R drawbacks addressed, which make the m400 a much better day to day car IMHO.
Turning circle is sensible
Seats are much more comfortable and supportive
No ground clearance probs without the pesky splitter (but i did just take it off the 3R anyway)
Fuel gauge is more accurate, adding to range.
Massively improved gearshift

- straight line performance a bigger step up than the figures suggest. 5000 rpm and over is lightspeed, where the 3R as you say tails off.

- Suspension changes lift its on track performance significantly. On the road, the biggest change is the steering feel followed closely by improved body control at higher speeds.

Negative points:

- I think the car is far more at the limit of its development potential, particularly with regards to cooling and gearbox issues. This may, though there is no evidence yet, affect the long term reliability.

Basically, do it.

Yes, still got it...it's a love hate thing. This week it's love. Next week, who knows. Always hankering after a new toy, hence the question. Interesting positive replies. Other big question of course is money. Any other thoughts on depreciation? Obvious answer is that 3R is further down depreciation curve and therefore likely to lose less over the next 2 years. Anyone got an alternative view on that?

Sorry for the thread drift, but have you considered getting the Manthey suspension kit for the GT2? Might make it less of a handful

Don't mind it being a handful, it's the chiropractors and dentists bills that get to me. Not sure if I've got any discs of fillings left!

I reckon the chiropractors bills will be cheaper unless I keep it for 5 years, which is unlikely.
