Hi All

I've finally found a Griff 500. Had it just over two weeks now and really pleased with it, well known car I believe. I managed to find a Surrey Roof on market place which I collected yesterday. This has addressed my first issue of boot space due to the roof panel not fitting in the boot very well.

My other issue is the drivers side mirror position. I've read everything I can find and watched all the videos. At some point when I'll get a pair of the Motaclan replacement mushrooms, but at this time the originals seem to be in very good condition.

I just don't seem to have enough adjustment which creates a huge blind spot. If I could access the grub screw all I need to do is slacken off and rotate the mirror a few degrees and re-tighten.

I found a post which I now can't find where someone seemed to be indication this is possible with a sawn down Allen key.

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Regards Karl.

Thankyou

I've just dismantled the mirror on the car. I can't even see the grub screw, let alone get to it with a Allen key.

I think raising up the mirrors - as in the thrad linked above - helps a lot. Also goes a long way to dealing with the inherent / latent defect of the mirrors grub screw fixing.

You could search ebay for 'blind spot' or 'convex' replacement mirror glass. I would also recommend get glass with a blue tint or applying a blue tint film over the glass - you could also add this to the rear view mirror. This helps deal with headlight glare which is a problem in such low cars.

Alternatively, and a more involved solution - upgrade to SE spec VW Corrado mirrors or Audi A1/A3/A4 stalk mirrors with repater (for which blue, heated and convex mirror glass is readily available). The Audi ones are available with the folding option, also fitted to other VAG cars.

Just been having a read through the Steve Heath Bible which turned up this morning. That suggests the torx screw which attached the inners of the mirror housing can be accessed through the door. Does anyone know if that is actually possible?

On the video I saw all you have to work with is the speaker hole. Is it possible to reach up and get a Torx drive through the threaded bush in the top of the door. That would certainly help in my case as the mirror are as new. Just on in the wrong position for me.
