Ive fallen into the trap of buying cars to fulfil specific purposes and now want to sell to free up space and cash. I have a 981 Cayman with 50k miles on and full, on schedule Porsche history. Perfect for sale / or to trade but... there's a couple of very small cosmetic issues I want to get sorted first, to be fair to the next buyer and also, of course, to maximise £££.

Common issues apparently: the door cards have both lifted at the top due to the crap adhesive Porsche used. The sun affects the cards and they lift. A specialist I've just seen says they see it all the time. It's a new one on me and a poor show IMO. Anyway, Porsche want 1.5K for new cards and fitting. The cards are pristine and it's just the lift at the top that's the issue so seems madness to pay all that... also, a switch or two has just flaked off. No damage / just poor materials again... 'see it all the time'.

The door cards specifically... is there anyone that knows a fix on the existing cards, being they are in A1 condition other than the top lifting? Would love for someone in the know to sort them.

The door cards are exceptionally easy to take off (literally just a few screws and disconnect electrics and handle cable and it pops off (easiest I have ever come across and there are no crappy clips that break!!).

If it is just the top lifting you should be able to remove and apply some fabric adhesive and smooth back down. £10 job done - or at least done enough to look good and probably last a fair time

Many thanks, I might have a go then... I heard there's some issue with the side airbag deployment if the wrong stuff is used. The cheek of asking 1.5k for new cards. Perhaps they are permanently warped now and that's why they suggested that option. Seems extreme.

If you find you need a specialist to do it we just got ours done last week by a local car upholstery place for £300 which is what our local OPC wanted just to look at it for a potential warranty claim.

If you want details let me know.

That's sounds like more like it! Whereabouts are you / the upholsterer based ?
