Ultimate £10k(ish) daily??
Discussion
My 'nice' car is a Z4 M40i, which is a perfectly decent daily but having flogged off my lovely but seldom used 2005 Z4, it left me in the market for something that I would use a bit more, useful for the commute and general duties. Having had a diesel TT roadster new in 2016, I had set up an auto trader alert for my new +1 car...
What popped up was my new car, a 2015 MK3 TT 2.0 TDi coupe, most importantly with the comfort and sound pack (B&O and climate), low miles, and a lovely Palomino (brown) leather...
Attracted by the £20 VED, 60mpg, ULEZ friendly, manual gearbox and punchy 184 diesel lump, it was mine, negotiated from £12k to £11k so was happy!
Honestly, I love it! It's now seemingly my default choice over the Z4 or my other half's Q7, just because it does everything we need to (even getting the dog in the back), goes well, sips fuel, looks decent enough, pennies to fuel, and coz it has a few marks, I don't feel too precious about it!
Appreciate it might not do so well if you're regularly ferrying around three kids and two Great Danes, but for me/us it's the perfect car and I can see myself keeping it for as long as ULEZ allows!
Anyway, what's your idea of a perfect daily?!

When my 330d dies (which still might be a while yet) it'll likely be replaced with anything from a 120d to a 430d.
From the era when diesels were super cheap to tax, super economical, but still reasonably quick and all the conveniences I want, but none of the driver aids I don't.
Just want to decide if I go 120d more for the wife, or a 430d for me. It'll probably be the 430d.

My 330d touring isn't worth anything like £10k now and while it probably isn't my ultimate daily (a bit boaty, could do with more toys, character, better refinement and generally a nicer interior) it's close enough to make the effort and expense of a change seem unreasonable - at least until it starts throwing up bills.
£300 to insure, £195 tax, has suffered ~£1000 depreciation pa/10,000 mile, acceptably quick, 45mpg and only 1850wd (parks appreciably more easily than the Disco 5 I recently borrowed!)

Three or four years ago, I also bought a TT as a daily runaround - a Mk2 S-Line Roadster for £8k. Probably a tad high, but it was an excellent condition car with only about 45k miles on it.
It's done the job of a "don't care" daily very well and being able to put the roof down in the summer is a nice touch. Generally it's been a good car and cheap to run - although a bit of a pain recently with the rear glass becoming unstuck a few months back, and a running problem that turned out the be a fuel injector (£1k bill).
Technically, I've replaced it as a daily with a more expensive car - mostly because on (very) rare occasions, I needed the TT for a long run and I just didn't like driving it that much. The downside being that while the OP's car "sips" diesel - my replacement is more of a "down in one, down in one!" kind of car......
Still kept the TT though which has become the wife's "clock up the mileage" car for her long commute, so it's still serving the daily role.
