Hi folks.

Hope some of you here can help clarify.

I have 2020 GR Yaris that has hit 66k miles.

It’s a daily and has done lots of miles recently.

Last full service was at 60k in May.

I have booked into the dealership today and they seem adamant it does not need the inter mediate service? It’s now on a service plan and they are now telling me it’s doesn’t need one until next year….

They reckon it just needs a safety check?

I bought a 2021 version last September and dilligently booked it in at 6 months to discover it was just a check and no fluids were changed. Itt had done 3k miles since purchase.
However doesn't it need fluid changes at 6k intervals?

Off the top of my head, every year or every 6k miles for a service (including an oil change). So if it is coming up for that it needs a service not a safety check.

Other than that in the intervening 6 months / 3k miles a safety check. This is optional for the warranty apparently but can be useful depending on what you have been doing with the car. You might have to tell Toyota dealers what it needs, as they can be a bit clueless.

Well if you want to maintain the 10yr warranty (warrantee for the council) you have to have it serviced within the required schedule. Make sure Toyota dealer gives you this in writing. It surely is not hard to find a clearly described service schedule from Toyota. Not your dealer. Toyota.

As I described above - scroll down the page for the GR Yaris service intervals:

Agreed. Seems that their keenness for maintenance has somewhat diminished since I started paying via service plan. Only after repeated contact did they acknowledge that it needed an intermediate service.

They also highlighted that my pads are 90% worn and have quoted for pads and discs. I did enquire if the discs are at minimum thickness to which they replied that they would ONLY replace both and not just the pads - this would apply if the pads wore prematurely at say 10k due to a track day...

That's nonsense as well - I got told something similar when the pads eventually wore down and got those done (£400 not cheap but worth doing). The discs are something like £1500, and there was no reason to get them done together. Sounds a bit like a dud dealer. Are they a GR specialist and is the service plan with their franchise or with Toyota?

I am fortunate to have an excellent Toyota dealer.
Just for information, after my service this year, I received an e-mail confirmation of my extra years warranty from them.

Sadly I’m at the mercy of a certain network of dealers I the South.

I did purchase a vernier Caliper and found that my right disc to be 27.1 mmm and left down to 26.1.

With a lot more left disc wear I’ve asked them to check I have got a seized caliper. It’s either that or the vehicle stability system working overtime…..

The genuine Toyota gr pads are about £80 from independent specialists. It takes about 45 mins max to do both calipers, nothing complicated, several guides on Youtube.

Yup looks very easy- tool free virtually and ez clips- you can see its been designed for fast pad and disc changes. Even the disc isn't secured - its held on by the calliper and wheel(nuts)

I've done a pad change on the Aston which was probably more awkward.

I haven't done a disc change before. Whilst it looks easy enough, I only have trolley jack and don't really want to rely on it when I. start unbolting stuff.

I did notice that the service manual recommend NOT to remove the calliper bolts but instead undo the entire the entire calliper assembly & subframe bracket - I can't find the torque spec for re-attaching though....

Anyways, I'll get the dealer to do it whilst still in the warranty window

do you have to have two visits to the dealership each year to keep the warranty in place ? that seems a lot of hassle

I’ve had my new discs and pads installed.

If it’s any help to other owners on here, Toyota direct parts have them for on sale at the moment at 640 & vat - that includes pads and discs

Just to note that the extended 10 year warranty is different to the manufacturers 3/5 year warranty. Track driving isn’t covered in the extended warranty and I suspect there’s a few more get out clauses.
