0a's BMW e23 735i - The OG 7 Series!
Discussion
There I was, minding my own business last night when on the barge whatsapp I get a link to a Pistonheads auction for a BMW e23 735i.
It's lovely. And there's only 2 minutes 45 seconds left.
I love e23s. I regret selling my old one. I know where it is, but it's been modded with wheels and air, and the owner wants big money for it.
By the time I have registered my credit card in order to bid, there's 15 seconds left. A quick decision was required. I'd looked at the pictures, and some of the comments. The owner is a decent chap. I hadn't read the ad. Or checked the MOT history.
I'm an idiot. But I think I got lucky. When Richard opened the garage and I saw the car for the first time this morning, I was relieved, then wow, very happy! I had a lovely drive home, in 70s/80s retro BMW heaven.
It has a good history, with a restoration with pictures, and plenty of additional work to make it run well. There are a few things to do, but it drives well with that distinct BMW noise (and smell).

The previous owner posted on the auction thread, but he doesn't have messages open. I would contact from anyone who knows more about, or has a connection to this car.

That’s a wonderful looking old thing! Bravo
It seems like only yesterday I bought that old A8 off you. I’m still messing around with old Audis , but that BMW is in a different league
Ah I thought I remembered the user name! I'm still sorry that I'd been dicking about on the land near the airport so it was filthy!

Do you have any pictures of the car? It's my one car that somehow I don't have a single picture of at all.
The e23 7 series is a rubbish car in many ways. BMW's attempt at an S class that fell so wide of the mark. But I love it. Love the styling. Love the way it drives.
I walked to school for many years past a burgundy one - I suppose it's this kind of nostalgia that drives us to want to own these cars.

And yes, it’s all nostalgia. Why else would I have just bought a 25 year old A4

Congratulations.
Such a distinctive design. And built like a tank. Enjoy it for many happy years to come.
I'm basically broken and love these old things - there was a much used and decrepit one I walked by on the way to school! That 3.4 litre BMW engine is just so lovely.Such a distinctive design. And built like a tank. Enjoy it for many happy years to come.

Wow I'm so happy to see those pictures - you've completed my car collection album! Cheers! A really good looking car that.
Happy to help! Yes, still a good looking car I think. Funnily enough the A4 T Soort I bought a few weeks ago has similar, but not highly polished, ‘competition’ alloys Delicious. Fabulous colours and it looks like a lovely thing to smoke around in. I laughed that apparently it's quite happy at 70, I'm sure it ought to be happy at significantly more than that.
I love these no compromises historics. Enjoyable enough to use every day without road tax or ULEZ with classic insurance prices. Winning.
