Thought I'd see if anybody shares the love for these unglamorous little granny/learner/shopping trolley motors?

For all their lack of street cred, I think they're a beautifully sorted little car. Brilliant engines, super reliable (I remember them topping JD Power surveys years ago), a lot of them still on the road at 15+ years old and mega mileages (I recently read of one that got to 283k before going to Valhalla).

Mine's an Acenta 1.2 with 2008 plate, just clicked over the 100k this summer on a big road trip to Ireland with the wife. Other than wishing for a sixth cog for motorways I can't really think of anything else I'd have wanted. It's great fun for zipping around town and B-roads (and capable of embarrassing "superior" cars on the twisties and even at traffic lights, up to 30-40 at least), comfy on long drives, has ample room for two and luggage, dirt cheap to tax and insure.

If you'd have told a BL or Ford buyer back in the 70s that one day you could buy a supermini with a slick five speed box, 16V injected engine with 80bhp that runs almost silently at town speeds they'd have told you to dream on.

Long live my Nanu! I'll keep the minor fixes going for the MOTs till she's of classic age, hopefully.
