Variable Sport Steering - any thoughts?
Discussion
Does anyone here have experience of BMW's Variable Sport Steering and, if so, what do you think of it?
I've seen an AUC F32 440i for sale which, while not quite the unicorn I'm looking for, is close enough if the price drops by a grand or so before someone else bags it. However, it has Variable Sport Steering which I don't really like the idea of. Basically it speeds up the steering at very low speeds so there's less arm twirling involved in slow, tight turns, such as when you're parking. In 32 years of driving I've never found the arm twirling associated with low speed, tight turns a hardship, but I might find the changing behaviour of the steering at different speeds a bit disconcerting. Is there a threshold at which it kicks in, creating a risk that in a tight turn into a junction you suddenly have more steering than you expected and end up on the kerb? Any thoughts?
