Our inherited pond became badly overgrown with rushes/reeds, pond grasses and plants. I cleared a lot out (not easy) but have damaged the butyl liner, as shown in the pictures. I know the perfect answer is to clear out totally and reline but the pond has cemented in pavers around the rim and a waterfall feature that is over the liner, plus other plants and a few fish. To clear out is a lot of work, let alone removing all the pavers etc and then all the 'putting back'. One pond chappie has already said "No" because of the work involved.
So, in letting it leak/ drain some of the rips are appearing, mostly it appears in the one area, about a foot square in total. There are some I can feel that are under the waterline at the moment. Is there any glue/adhesive or mastic that I can use UNDER the waterline to try to put a patch in place ? I know it is not ideal or the normal thing to do but the alternative is just so expensive for a small garden pond. Thanks.

Update is bad, damage is much worse than first thought plus the vast amount of under water root growth that has developed so it looks like it will be a total clear out and rebuild.
Thanks for the patch advice. I have tried some mastic and tape to try to stem the drainage a little until work starts.
