When I got the X3 it gives you the opportunity to add a digital key that you can put in your Apple Wallet. I have been fine with it and rarely take a physical key with me. The other morning while sitting in the car waiting for my wife at the shops, this woman hit my car while opening her door, I got out and shut the door, it locked, so effectively we could not get in the car. My phone was in the charging tray. Unknown to me my wife had one of the physical keys in her bag so all was well. Lesson learned as they say

I think it depends on what key triggered the unlock, on this occasion I’d say your physical key triggered the unlock and start, so triggered the lock.

It probably started with your wife's key in proximity rather than the digital key so when you got out, her key wasn't nearby car said hey lets lock up.
