Of course Manhart now makes a 900hp G90 M5

If power truly does corrupt, nobody's mentioned it to the M5 tuners...

Say what you will about the new BMW M5 (if you haven’t already), but it’s certainly attracted the attention of the aftermarket. Already Milltek offers an exhaust, R44 Performance has a mean bodykit, and Dahler has made the M5 Touring from hell. So there are options out there for those keen but not totally sold on the standard M car. Now Manhart is offering up its take on the hybrid M5 in trademark fashion.

There’s loadsa power, basically, this mean and moody saloon now rated at a staggering 910hp and 885lb ft. Hence MH5 900e. That’s been achieved through software as well as something called the Manhart turbo upgrade, which it must be assumed involves hardware changes also. Because more than 900hp is crazy. The standard car is 727hp and 738lb ft strong, for reference, so this is going to feel significantly faster. A new Manhart stainless steel exhaust may contribute a few hp, plus bring the noise.

The rest of the modifications are broadly familiar from Manhart’s other mad M cars. It’s black with a champagne decal set (‘absolutely obligatory’, says Manhart), which is quite a big change from the usual gold. It’ll be desert sand next. The Concave One forged wheels are fitted, too, here 22s all round (in case parking an M5 wasn’t challenging enough). There’s carbon throughout, from the front chin spoiler and canards to the double trouble arrangement at the rear. By the standards of what we’ve seen thus far for the hybrid M5, Manhart’s work is reasonably subtle. Which maybe says more about the other modified M5s.

Suspension can be totally overhauled with the fitment of KW Variant 4 coilovers, or just dropped for some Insta clout on H&R springs. As Manhart puts it, the spring and damper changes ‘not only optimise driving dynamics, but the resulting lowering of the vehicle is also an essential component of visual refinement’. Brakes are left untouched, as this one was built from a car with the ceramics. There are some Manhart goodies inside, including a swish Alcantara headlining, to finish off the package.

Prices haven’t yet been announced for the MH5 900e package, although this exact is for sale on AutoScout24 at €220,000 - or £190,000. So quite an uplift from the £135k a four-door with the brake upgrade (as part of the Ultimate Package) might cost, but once engine bits are being swapped the price does add up. Interestingly though, the Powerbox is currently on sale from Manhart - €3,429 for the moment - and that must be good for a few extra Pferdestärken. Just the fire in its belly this Isle of Man Green one could use, especially with the 189mph speed limit increase…

Technically outstanding to get that much power in a saloon but I'd feel a right bell end driving that....

Impressive figures, not sure its where I'd be putting my £200k but it is quite cool.

probably for the first time it doesn't really look any *worse* than the original car did.

I like that, I bet that car would also look great in some dark purple violet metallic color.

I’ve always thought that what a 700+ bhp car really needs is a chunk more power.

To be fair you do get used to owning a high powered car. It's a strange sensation as when you first get in it blows you away, but after a few months it becomes the norm.

Sounds crazy I know but that bump would be worth it.

Lose the visor sticker and I think that looks decent.

I'm sure the 'standard' M5 could be easily tweaked to similar power figures.

Horrible thing, looks so tall in the rear photo it's more akin to an X6 than a sports saloon

Other than the pursuit of power for power’s sake, I can see no reason to own or aspire to one of these or any other similar hot rod.
They all seem so generic and , in my opinion, are bereft of any sense of style or usability on today’s roads…
The acme of conspicuous consumption - until the next one comes along and blasts this into the weeds but where is the joy in that unless you aspire to be a Fast Show caricature ?

Weighs a tonne more than a Lotus Carlton.

When this generation of M5 was first released everybody was stupidly (yes stupidly) complaining that it was too heavy, but i don't see anybody here complaining about weight so far.
Admittedly I have not read the article so maybe the modified car has somehow lost a lot of weight...but that seems unlikely.
People can be so fickle. rolleyes
