Gutter now leaking.

I had a “brainwave” the other day and decided instead of getting soaked cleaning the gutter in situ I’d simply unclip a length and clean it on the floor then clip it back up. Bungalow so not too high.

Worked well to start with. Got all the crud from the inside of the gutter out as well.

Clipped it back up with some difficulty and it now leaks from both ends of the run. From the union pieces. Tried to fix it today, cleaned the gutter union rubber seals and lined the gutter up with the line in the union. Still leaking.

Anyone know how to fix?

I should probably add the guttering been up there at least 15 years. Before I moved in.

I’d just get a new union or replace the rubbers in the one there making sure to get the same brand, they’re not all interchangeable. The rubbers do lose their squishiness but sometimes silt builds up next to them and helps seal the joint…until you come along and disturb everything!

Have you got the clips properly centered so they are applying uniform pressure on the seals? They can be a bit finickety

Clean the rubbers and a thin bead of silicone on both sides and job done.

Thanks all. Didn’t know you could get new rubbers. I may just clean the unions then, see how rusty the screws look to take them off.

You’ll probably find the screws holding the union to the fascia are hidden behind the gutter, meaning the gutter will have to come off again! Just replacing the rubbers is possible with the gutter in place, if a bit awkward bearing in mind you’re up a ladder.

Cleaned the unions and rubbers. Still leaking. Gah!

You can get solvent weld end caps, I think these look a lot neater. Just need some pipe solvent cement.

I guess it might end up being too short as these are about an inch short than the clip on ones.

Cleaning the rubber never seemed to work for me, best to get new fresh ones. They're very cheap.
