Apple Pay credit card declined at pay & display machine?

Slightly random question but I pay for pretty much anything and everything by Apple Pay using a Lloyds Credit Card.
Usually works flawlessly but the only two places I've ever had it rejected are two pay & display machines.
Different car parks different counties can't say I paid much attention to who the car park operators were but I'd be surprise if they were the same.
Does anyone know if there's any kind of "thing" about pay & display machines not liking credit cards?
My Apple Pay Lloyds debit card worked absolutely fine with both and I used the credit card before and after so it's not like it was blocking anything else.
