There was a documentary on Channel 5 on Saturday all about the notion that Freddie Mercury had a daughter in 1977.
Most of it was devoted to an interview with the journalist who started the whole thing, and claimed to have had an extensive correspondence with the 'Daughter' referred to only as B. B apparently looks just like Freddie, but we didn't see any pictures. Other than that the evidence seems to be that B appears to know a massive amount about him, implying she was certainly close, but not really evidence that she was his daughter.
The argument was that B was the daughter of a married friend of Mercury. The husband, though clearly not best pleased, is said to have done his best for B to the point of arranging for Freddie to spend time with her in Switzerland.
Oddly, there seemed to be no attempt to identify the couple. Apparently aristocrats who were both close to Freddie and are both now dead.
The surviving members of Queen plus Mercury's friends such as Mary Austin regard this as impossible, saying there is no way he would or could have kept all this secret.
I did wonder if B is actually the biological daughter of both of the aristocratic friends and Freddie was a sort of honorary uncle or secular godfather.
