Wife bought a MotoG(24?) for use as a works phone. Put the sim card in and set it up a few months ago but she never really got round to using it.

Finally decided to get it running and in use. Charged it, added contacts, checked it would run the things she needs it to. Took it to work and informed staff this was the main works contact phone. Great.

Took it out of her bag and the screen was black. No response to any button or screen presses.

Made it my problem as resident tech bod, commanded I fix it.

Tried all the button combos to get it to reboot, no joy. If you try to hold the power button down to force reboot, just hangs on the blue "M" loading screen.

Internet suggests accessing a recovery mode by holding volume down and power button but this does nothing. Well almost. Sometimes I can get it to "meta mode" where it says, "meta mode" in small writing at the bottom left of the screen but this seems to have no further purpose.

Once and once only, I got into the recovery mode. Selected the factory reset as suggested by internet experts, but it still just rebooted into the loading screen. Now I can't work out how I did it so can't re try it.

Anyone had any success fixing one of these?

TLDR - Moto G broke, can't fix it. Help.

Windows ADB and Fastboot may let you connect and hard reset. Beyond that, it sounds like battery.

Have you let it run down, tried a different charge device, and then the reset?

The charging screen shows if it’s plugged in and I’ve managed to turn it off (not always easy as it seems to like flicking back on to the load screen) and shows it charges and holds it.

Fairly confident it’s not the battery.

Hmmm….I have an old moto phone (has no SIM card as use it on Wi-Fi on sim rig). It has in the last week done the same thing. It just flashes on/off the Motorola loading screen. Took battery out, back in…same issue. Guess it’s a coincidence and maybe also a dead battery
