Tracking down a family heirloom (1970 Beetle) OIG1696
Discussion
Good afternoon fine folks of PH. I am currently trying to seek out my old beetle. It’s a 1970 1300 in that so 70s colour of savannah beige.
It came with such illustrious options as the rare Golde steel sliding sunroof… and that’s about it. But that makes it a rare car all the same.
The car belonged to my grandparents from new and I took ownership in the late 2000s and the car was my daily for a few years. Sadly due to some personal circumstances I had to sell the car and it went to a lovely couple in Lancashire who kept it in good order. They have since moved on and sold the car too. I believe to an owner in the London area.
I’m trying to trace the car to share its history and if possible buy it back. It was a big part of my childhood and was the car that got me into cars. I learned so much keeping it going and I’ve never had the feeling that car gave me since.
Countless members of the family have learned to drive in it, it’s taken us on holidays and was the only car my grandparents ever had.
I’ve reached out to some vw clubs and a few specialists but the trail has gone cold. I know a few folk of this parish have had success tracing old flames but any help would be greatly appreciated.
The car was originally RTU732H but is now showing OIG1696.
Would love to see it again!

There are no official channels to locate a car to its current owner. So, the best method seems to be posting on facebook groups (there must be plenty of original VW Beetle clubs on facebook) and asking the enthusiasts if they know of or have seen the car.
Probably worth posting on as many as possible to get greater coverage and also posting a few times to raise the awareness.....
