Just thought I'd mooch on in to the Elise Forum as I am awaiting the prep of my recently purchased humble S1. I usually reside in Biker Banter as I have a fond passion for the two wheeled form of transport. Nice to meet you all!!

I hope that I haven't made a foolish decision in buying an older vehicle. I now work 6 miles from home (down from a 72 mile commute) hence have decided that it was time to change my work horse for a car with more grin factor.

I bought a 1 owner 32k S1 in silver on a 1998 plate.

I have a couple of questions that I need answering:

1. Has anyone tried a 160TF ali throttle body on a standard S1 Elise? Does it make any difference to performance or is it a fix for a sticking plastic version?

2. It seems that there is very limited options when it comes to wheel replacement. I fancied some OZ or BBS racing wheels eventually but this may prove difficult. Does anyone have any information on supply/source?

3. I don't have a hardtop and we are heading towards winter. Is this going to be a big problem? Should I be looking at this as my first accessory purchase?

4. The front grill, as were many that I looked at is slightly tatty. Behind that, there is a mounting post that is corroded as well. How do I get to this to remove and respray/treat?

5. Any good stereo/speaker combinations available that
will give reasonable quality sound?

Well done - nothing humble about an S1 - probably the most driver orientated incarnation of the elise. No frill / fuss, just darn good fun. Welcome to the fraternity.

Not personally but many recommend it for both. However IIRC it will only improve throttle-response a little on unmodded cars. Suspect gains will be negligible or nothing if it's a straight replacement (other than perhaps using more juice). Have you had a search in the forum for info?

Depends on what wheel size you want. Personally I don't think you can beat the Sport 160 Victory wheels on the S1.

Not really - how good is the fit on your soft-top? I had one for 18 months and didn't use it at all last winter. My soft-top was fine. Sold it this year.

Sure it's not the towing eye mount? If there's a threaded hole through the middle of it that's what you're looking at. Honestly, I have no idea how to remove it!
