For those who don’t fancy gawping at the ‘Sun’

‘Phantom’ racing car driver finally arrested by Czech police after 6 years

No mention has been made of the speed involved. At 8.15 a.m. local time on Sunday, police were alerted to a racing car seen at a gas station near Dobříš, about 25 miles southwest of Prague.

A 51-year-old man, who tested negative for both drink and drugs, was identified behind the wheel, although his identity has not been made public. He was taken to a police station for questioning but refused to comment, police said.

The owner has been charged with driving a motor vehicle that is not in compliance with local traffic laws.

The police will now pass the case to the administrative body that will decide on the penalty. The offense carries a fine of 5,000 to 10,000 Czech koruna ($240-$480) and a driving ban of six months to a year.

Saw this on Facebook yesterday. So many quite incredible things about the story, not least that he was doing it for 6 years and that none of his neighbours dobbed him in during that time.

Imagine living in a country with good enough road surfaces and few enough speed bumps you could literally drive a race car on the road.

My hero!... have a feeling the car in front has something to do with it as well.

There are some things we can only dream of doing in life, this guy is living it and doing one of those things. A true hero.

Could he not outrun the police?

How did it take 6 years to finally nab him, it's hardly a car that blends into the surroundings!

I don’t think he used it as a daily…

The YouTube video comments suggest he is an interesting character not unfamiliar with the police and legal issues…

I just watched the clip. I’m guessing that’s a pre-turbo car as it’s seriously loud. I’d hate to live next door to him when he starts that up!

Quite cool though. I suspect the fine won’t bother him too much.

They knew who it was 6 years ago but didn't catch him in the act until now.

That would have to be a contender for the M25 lap record.

Yes, right up to the first speed bump.

I agree! The idea of someone just driving this thing around for that amount of time, clearly not done anyone any actual harm in that time.

I can imagine kids seeing this go past and it putting a smile on their faces.

Definitely. He's not hurt anyone doing this - just the opposite in most cases.

It would be great if he could just receive a warning - but I know that's being too soft and is not going to happen.

Great story, car looks ace.

If he put a single strip of insulating tape through the number 7 I think it would have made it all OK

Reminds me of that french chap (Remy something?) who drives around dressed as Mario, throwing bananas at cars.

Brilliant! Sort of thing I would fantasise about but never do.

Like a threesome with Rayner and Reeves.

You'd probably get prison if you tried it here. Either fantasy.

Well that’s just brilliant, imagine pottering along the M6 on a Sunday morning and this thing comes ripping past laugh
Obviously illegal though and the PH cry babies will be along to ask if you’d be happy if he killed all your family and couldn’t be traced because of no number plate hehe

Largely my immediate thoughts too hehe

Either that (and more likely) he chose his routes for the car *VERY* carefully!
