My contract with Sky ends on Friday and yesterday I called them to advise that I would not be renewing. They said that I had to give them 31 days notice and that I would have to pay for another month during which the service would still be available.

I thought that if my contract had expired and I didn't renew that would be it, apparently not. I'm still a bit puzzled as to why I have to give 31 days notice when I'm out of contract and whether they are right in what they say.

I think when your "contract" expires it's actually a set of discounts that expire and all that happens is you revert to a monthly rolling contract at full price. To actually leave Sky you have to give notice and cancel.

Thanks to both for replying That's pretty much what they said.

Guess I should have read the small print.

Literally amazed Sky are still going and that there are that amount of people out there willing to pay £100+ a month for it. My parents had Sky for decades, every time I went round there it seemed like just the same rubbish as Free view with a couple of other channels I had no interest in with adverts.

I eventually persuaded them to cancel it when it was apparent they were using my Netflix account instead. like me ten years previously they didn't miss it for one second.

I think Sky TV/ Virgin is something that will struggle to stay relevant in the next decade, much like the BBC and other traditional broadcasters. The next generation of Adults and those which follow don't consume media in the traditional ways and will have zero interest in broadcast television, everything they watch now is on demand through the various subscription services, Netflix, Paramount etc, even Youtube and Tiktok are taking prevalence.

My thirteen year old daughter no longer wants a TV in her room at all, she had one and it gathered dust, for some reason she prefers to watch a streaming service on her phone or laptop, my 8 year old only watches Youtube. Both my kids live in a house where we as adults watch TV but they aren't really interested.

Sky are orchestrating their own demise.

With Sky Stream the home screen shows programs from BBC and when chosen they cause BBC iPlayer to load together with the annoying profiles and TV licence screens.

Sky Stream loads apps for almost everything and often the apps need extra logins or subscriptions.

My smart TV already does all the apps so why do I need Sky?
