Cannot believe the price

Took my 2018 f30 335d for its MOT to a BMW dealer I have used for years. My first failure in 18 with them so can't complain I suppose ,but I will be in a second!
Fail was a cracked wheel rim £650. horrible ...ok bite the bullit etc thinking to myself I just can't get in front this year finance wise.
There was also an "advisory" on there one of my front sidelights appeared to have burnt ,so that headlamp and modules.......ready......£3,250.00. It seems it will not effect an MOT. I guess if and when it comes to it I will use a local garage but whatever they come up with price wise it's still going to be a hell of a hit.

Interesting was that their 1 year used car warranty because can't find any mention of lights in their used insurance warranty that I have and anything not mentioned is not covered.. appreciate an answer so I may have some ammunition tomorrow thanks

Cracked wheels seem to be quite a common problem on BMWs with larger wheels (19"+) especially if using run-flats. Quite a few people fit standard tyres to reduce the risk of rim damage.
Those lights are an eye-watering price. Just reminds me why my BMWs date from the mid 2000s!
Hopefully if you ever need to replace them you can find some used ones.

Mine is an AUC car but I'm in year 4 of ownership, so on the allianz insured warranty now paid monthly.Edited by smashy on Tuesday 9th September 20:46
After reading a few horror stories about making claims I was a bit concerned about it being rejected, but when I read the policy docs it's clear that bulbs are not included (which is to be expected) for example but an LED element isn't a bulb and also not a serviceable consumable. I'd also done a bit of digging online and there are topics about LED lights being replaced, more so rears, but the same applies whether front or rear lights. I found some where an insured warranty car had been in for service, they spotted the failed LEDs and changed the unit under the warranty.
From what I've read and "heard" some main agents can be harder to deal with than others when it comes to claims of any type.
My gut feeling is eventually they'll give components like these an expected lifespan like 8/10/12 years etc after which they aren't covered.

It's just bad on so many levels.
It's not going to be possible to run these cars DIY in 15, 20, 25 years time is it? I may start a new thread if there isn't one but I can't see running the cars of today as old cars/classics will be viable in the future.
I agree. Its a ridiculous situation, but is what happens when we reinvent the wheel. It's not going to be possible to run these cars DIY in 15, 20, 25 years time is it? I had to replace a sidelight on my Astra many weeks ago, the first bulb to go in the 3 years I've had it. Cost me 10 minutes and about £3.50. I suspect its the original and the car is 10 years old.
