I’m looking for a 2005 Seamaster for a gift, 2531.80.00, that’s the full size automatic one. With box and papers etc.

I’ve never bought a second hand watch before, checked the likes of Hackett watches and Hora in Glasgow.

What are peoples experiences of chrono24 and watchfinder? How about eBay and the Authenticator thing? Any good or bad experiences?

Thanks
Lefty

Used Watchfinder on a number of occasions to both buy and sell and I have always had a good experience with them so I can recommend them. Can't help with the others

Just tell Dom what you want, I wouldn’t use anyone else based on my experiences with him.

IME, whilst Dom is a good egg, if you're looking for something specific in this country you need to go find it yourself, then evaluate the seller.

It seems to be a bit different in the US, where you can say to your pet dealer "go fetch me a XYZ" and they will do so. This in part is probably served by the US being a much bigger market place.

Is it mostly private sales in there? Dealers? Or a combination?

Yeah they are - I’m specifically looking for a full set but my question was really about the process of buying second hand watches online and what places to use or not.

Spoke to a couple of sellers on eBay too, again no 2005 watches with the full set. I wouldn’t be too worried about not getting the box, can easily find one of those for sale but I do want the cards.

Maybe consider buying one and sending it straight to Omega for service? It will come back looking new, authenticated and with a new service warranty. Probably also a neat service pouch.

As above if you do buy one through Ebay or Watchfinder etc and you are worried about it being 100% rule, send it to Omega for a service quote (I'm guessing Omega is like Rolex where they email or post a quote before the work is done?)

All as you have to do then is reject the service and they will send it back.

I've always used WF, they are 100% in terms of the watch being what it says it is, owned by Richemont and you can haggle, bought 8 watches from them and never had an issue.

They offer their own stock and resell/marketplace for other dealers but I just filter on their stock.

I’d buy on Ebay (obviously if the price is good etc),will be authenticated to protect you and the seller, if you’re not happy & return it.
A great service and free..
