Places to stay in the Lakes?

Situation is I need to find a self catering cottage/apartment for 2 near Windermere or near Grizedale Forest, its for a short break going up next thursday 13th and coming back on staurday.

I have emailed a few owners and none have come back to me yet, so I thought I would open it up to the resident PHers to see if anyone has been recently and has any recommendations of places to stay, eat, etc.

Yes I know its not the usual short term break days but surely someone out there has done similar days.

Any help would be much appreciated.
