Bike - 'Daylight MOT' and fitting non-approved headlights?
Discussion
If a motorcycle was fitted with new fairings which included non-approved LED headlights which offered the standard dipped/main function, could it still be MOT'd under the 'Daylight Only' advisory?
Would the headlights have to be unplugged or taped up for the MOT?

My zzr11 has a aftermarket led 'bulb' it's up to the MOT guy, he always mentions it but says it's beam pattern is as good as standard and it's much brighter
It's a good point - I guess the MOT tester may not even care if the lights are non-approved or whatever, if the beam pattern and brightness is ok.I was just thinking of the worse case scenario where the beam pattern or possible light output wasn't going to be good enough.
You've probably already seen this, but:
4.1.1. Presence, condition and operation
A motorcycle or motorcycle and sidecar must be fitted with one headlamp, although additional headlamps may be fitted. Apart from headlamp security, the check only applies to mandatory lamps.
Headlamps are not needed on motorcycles that:
are not fitted with front and rear position lamps
have had their front and rear position lamps permanently disconnected, painted over or masked

Looks like you'll have to do something with the other lights too.

Thanks for that. Useful. 4.1.1. Presence, condition and operation

It looks like I'll either have to have the other lights unplugged as well, or the tester will pass it with the new LED lights.
I have actually just found a video on YouTube where a guy has fitted the exact fairing and lights I'm looking at, and the MOT tested passed it, after some adjustment of the dipped beam angle. So may all be fine anyway.
