4.0-v-5.0 Compare.

Has anyone made the change from 4 litre to 5 litre?

If so, how big were the differences? Any preference? I use my (4.0) as an everyday car, any reason why a 5.0 would be any less practical?

No less practical, just a whole lot more fun. 5.0 is soooo much quicker!

The 5.0 is much faster than the 4.0 - more torque.

Some 5.0 cars have drive-train shunt (search the older forum posts for this) but most are fine. No real difference in terms of practicality compared to the 4.0. Some people prefer 4.5s as a good half-way point for daily use.

I drive my 5.0 every day.

I use my 5.0 every day too. Excellent daily driver, and 1.0 better than the 4.0. Love it.

An extra 100 horses in the 5.0 gives lots more grunt and a completely different noise (which I personally prefer). As my 4.0 was a '93 and my 5.0 a '99 it is difficult to be unbiased. It goes probably without saying that the '99 car is 'more refined'.

I ran a 400 for over 2 years as a daily driver and upgraded to a 500 in July. I had heard about potential overheating, rough running, jerky pickup etc.
I have experienced none of these. A properly set up 500 should behave as well as a 400. An unexpected bonus has been slightly improved economy as the extra torque means Im usually in a higher gear.
Great fun to jump in a 500 after a crappy day at the office. The performance difference is err, noticable!

Daily driver in my chim 500, racked up over 10000 miles in 5 months! Fantastic! no probs, starts first time everytime!

Hmm and extra 70 absolute max - but 500 is and easy every day car - uses a bit more gas but only difference. Make no sense to get a 4 and then trade in later for 5 (well I hate changing cars - way too much hassle).

You know you want a 500.

Got two shoppers already so don't actually want any more. The ability to do so would be nice though.
