After a Max masterclass in Monza we’re in Baku for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. It’s the fastest street circuit on the calendar and can be good fun.

Most focus will be on Oscar vs Lando and Mclaren team orders (a storm in a tea cup in my view). It was a great fight last year between Leclerc and Piastri and this should be another close one. Hopefully the Red Bull upgrades work as well here, Ferrari and Mercedes will likely be just behind (again).

Pirelli is bringing the C6 tyre here which might spice things up a bit.

Here’s to a great race. Max was inch perfect last weekend and will also win here, I think.

Date(s): Friday 19 to Sunday 21 September 2025.

UK Broadcast Timings (and track time)

All sessions are live on Sky F1. Channel 4 is showing highlights of all competitive sessions.

2024 Highlights: Oscar win, Sainz and Perez accident

Thanks PiaP!

One of my favourite races - the walls of Monaco and the speed of Monza. Something interesting usually happens here.

(Also thanks for getting this thread up slightly earlier - something to distract from the circular arguments about Italy!)

Wasn't sure where to put this, but Carlos Sainz penalty at the Dutch GP has been officially overturned.

Safety car shenanigans and a Russell victory due to his fortunate position at the time.

Just a wild guess

For me this is the best of the 'modern' street circuits - and nail biting for quali!

The cars are incredibly close this season so quali will be close too, he who dares wins...

I've gone Piastri as I think he can be trusted to put in a faster lap than Lando here, without risking clipping a wall. A safer bet, in other words.

That said if Lando doesn't hold back for the risk of a smash, he's good here too.

And P1/2 could easily become P2/3 as Max has nothing to lose and can go balls out for the P1. The McLaren drivers both have to be a little more cautious.

I’ve been saying similar in loads of race polls so far and not even come close it it happening so I’m not going for that for this one.

Now watch it happen!

It's like a fast Monaco. Good for qualifying but utterly dull racing unless someone crashes and we get a late safety car.

A moment of sanity in the FIA. At least we can go back to thinking if a car drives into you and it's not your fault, you won't get a penalty....

Sorry for the thread divert

Good that the 2 penalty points have been reversed from Carlos.

If Carlos hadn t have served his 10-second in-race penalty, would he have been promoted to finish 8th?

That s my interpretation of point 30 of the FIA right of review decision:

I have gone for Max here - if he does win, Lando will be starting to get the sweats. If Max also wins in Singapore, then Oscar will feel the heat too.. all the Papaya fight talk may turn out to be premature.

The red cars could be in with a shout for a podium given their top speed. Max is still a bit of an enigma with RB’s pace, so it’ll be interesting to see how he goes. Lando just needs a clean race to keep his hopes alive.

If luck plays a large part in this race, then Hamilton could win. I mean it's technically possible, but sadly quite unlikely given that it's Ferrari.

I wonder which Antonelli will turn up. Pressure seems to be the problem here
