Oh, this is very sad. An excellent fighter, and seemingly a stand up sort of guy.

Dreadful news. No many details yet but given his history it sounds horribly like it could be suicide?

Terrible news. I met him when he was training for the Mayweather fight.
He only attended one of his mates funeral about a week ago who had committed suicide.

Terrible news.

Had to double check to confirm when I read the title.

Sad to hear this. When his son retired from boxing I had hoped Ricky would be able to grow old and satisfied with a quiet life.

Blimey, that’s awful.

The mental health issues suggestion may be pertinent. Maybe it’s just always been the case that men in their 40s struggle with mental health, but I’ve now entered my 40s and I’m absolutely staggered by how many men are currently taking their own lives or sinking into oblivion through drink and drugs. I know two in the past 12 months who’ve committed suicide and numerous others, including someone very close, who’ve absolutely destroyed their lives through drink and drugs. Is it a new thing?

I think that's pretty much a certainty.

Ricky was pretty open abut how he struggled with depression after his defeats to Mayweather & Pacquiao:

I don't think it's new. Suicide is the leading cause of death in men under 50.

I don't think so, no. Some men are able to cope with losing certain aspects of their physicality, fitness, for professional sports people and athletes it's going to hit the mentals harder but it still hits hard.

A fairly well trodden path. 20 something that experiences highs most of us can only dream of. Becomes champion of the world in something and then has 60 years of never being able recreate that high to look forward to.

I'm surprised it's not even more prevalent.

Blimey. Wasn’t expecting that. I used to know Ricky through work. Always great for a chat and a good nature about him. He brought the Lonsdale belt into the office one day and happily passed it around everyone. His Dad had to work hard to keep in in check and his mum used to hate having to watch him fight.

A really sad loss. RIP Hitman Hatton.

I assume they will do an autopsy, would be interesting to know if they find signs of CTE.
