I was hoping to start a thread about my newly purchased Volvo 240 estate.

A courier from Shiply was supposed to pick it up 4pm yesterday, that was delayed to 10am today, he collected from Maidstone in Kent for delivery to Southampton.

Apparently...he's waiting for another job before he delivers it, which might be tomorrow. Or not. It is somewhere, unknown to me, which is his base.

I'm getting text messages from a number that says its going to deliver tonight at 9.30.

Its a different one than the number on Shiply where I booked it and a different number than the one on the truck.

Curious.

I've been sent bank deets. Account name matches Shiply, so I've paid the £140.

Delivery tonight...

This should be good. I'll check back just after 21:30.

Its been found! Huzzah!

It arrived at my Dad's on the mainland at 9.30 last night, it was missing for about 11hours, I've no idea where it was.

I'm going over to collect this evening.

Abducted by aliens? Minds immeasurably superior to ours intrigued by the practical possibilities of a boxy Swedish estate?

If you paid 140, through Shipley that is not what the contractor will be getting and that is already very cheap for that trip.

To make it pay they are usually running with trailers needing two vehicles the same way, or if single, a return journey and will delay delivery to make things pay.

Shipley would have charged less than Red Funnel

Exactly. Maidstone to Southampton return is 200 miles. After Shipley fees the transporter is down to about 50p a mile.

Would love to know how may of the subjects in the posts on the road policing facebook pages were booked at rates like these.

First car I ever drove. At the age of 15-ish. I'd gone potato picking with my mate. His dad ran the business. He left his keys in his 245 DL so we did a few doughnuts in a field.
