just spent all that money getting the starter replaced and the wiring sorted out only to find that the starter still fails once every 10 goes so i thought stuff this and bought myself a multi meter and checked the volts to the starter when it failed and got a reading of 5.6 volts ,much too low to operate the solenoid ,so traced the wire back though the loom right up to the alarm where it goes through the alarm box and then up to the ignition switch where it was 12 volts ,so found out that the contacts in the alarm were a bit burnt as it is about 3 years old ,so i rewired the system and bypassed the alarm for the starter which now works every time and the alarm still imobilises the ecu as it should ,but not the starter which it should also but sod it ,i think the alarm will need replacing at a later date its a sigma type ,but what a pile of old bits the wiring loom is on these cars very hit and miss in some areas.

Strictly speaking you have just modified the alarm and need to tell your insurers. Get it sorted PDQ is the best advice.

The wiring is normally not as bad as you have found though. Sounds as if someone has made a lot of mods.
