Dusseldorf & Nurburgring Trip 2025
Discussion
A brief write up of my recent ring trip. I'd never been until 2019ish, since then I've been around 17 times. Some have been just me and a mate for a weekend away and a chill, some have been large groups of us. This time it was a bit of a couples trip, bringing the wives with us, mine had one stipulation that we couldn't stay anywhere ropey. Fair enough
We set off Thursday morning and got a lunchtime train. My first trip in my M3 after buying it a few months ago so I was buzzing with excitement. We normally get the train for speed tbh, especially with the trip being quite short.

We headed across north France towards Lille then up into Belgium towards Mons. Although it takes a little longer this avoids Brussels and Antwerp congestion. The last few trips in my 340i I could do the whole trip in one tank of fuel, unsurprisingly the V8 was a little more thirsty but helpfully it was similar to my mates GT4 so we both needed to stop around the same time. Quick splash of fuel and on we went.

Our first stop was the b'mine hotel in Dusseldorf, firstly because we like a trip to Classic Remise and Motorworld for a wonder around but also because it's cool to park your car on the balcony of your hotel room.
We arrived at about 8pm so found some food, had a few beers and had an early night.

A little lay in and we had a bit of breakfast before heading to Classic Remise which is about 10 minutes away. I'm sure many know about these places but basically there are a huge range of cars in storage to be viewed alongside some workshops, dealers and a restaurant. Well worth an hour or two if you're in near one. Too many cool cars to post but this was quite impressive.

Half hour down the road in Cologne we stopped off at Motorworld, which was much the same. There's a large Schumacher exhibition which was interesting alongside some cool cars at the dealers there. We stopped for lunch at one of the restaurants before heading down to Adenau. Two things I'll never get bored of in life, one is driving across Europe with my mates, the second is the bonnet hump on this car!

We arrived in Adenau and as I mentioned I had to make sure the accommodation was up to my wife's standards, I found the 'Residenz Kirchberg' online with good reviews. We normally get an apartment to share but this hotel was very nice and good value, as a lucky bonus, our balcony was shared with my mate in the room next door. Good parking and lovely views, it was close enough that we could walk down the hill to the bakery each morning (and up the hill pissed each evening).

The track was closed Saturday but the roads and scenery around the area as fantastic so I spent a little bit of time making up a little route for drive out, 45 minutes of smooth, glorious, empty German roads. Some twisty bits, some nice open bits and a nice walk to a waterfall at the end of it. Since we were all trying to get a bit of exercise in it seemed like a nice plan, in reality it was quite the hike up and down hills for a good half hour but the result was nice.

Everyone out there is nice and friendly, we had a nice chat with a Germany family who visit yearly to the area. After another fuel stop and we headed back across the countryside. We got back in time for the track to open for a couple hours in the evening so we pitched up to watch for a bit.

I could happily spend hours wondering around the various carparks, here's a little selection of motors I thought were picture worthy.

I've lapped the track a few times over the years but the TF days are quite hectic, lots of very very fast cars and drivers mixed with lots of very very clueless people and everything in between. Track days are much more enjoyable IMO so I decided to swerve doing any laps on this trip, particularly as I'm quite precious over my new car! I've got a Clio for track days so we're in the process of planning a trip with that next year.
The next day we were up early to watch one of our mates do some laps in a rental, once he was done we decided to walk the track to the Carousel, another good 30 minutes but worth it for a unusual viewpoint of the track. We spent the afternoon in the e Sports bar watching the F1, done the tourist 1st timer pictures in the new car and then headed out for our last night's dinner.

A steady drive home, terrible weather but we made it to our train in good time. Usual argument with boarder control trying to take my wife from me (Italian passport but British citizen) and we were on the train home! As soon as we join the motorway I remember how terrible the driving is on this side of the channel! Glad to be home but already planning the next trip, likely a longer one into Italy & Austria next year too. The car was faultless, averaged 25mpg, comfortable, fast and made me smile every mile I drove!
