Suggestions for a route from La Chartre sur Loir to Sarlat
Discussion
Hi
Any suggestions for a route for our next trip from Hotel de France in La Chartre sur Loir down to Sarlat in a day using scenic but good motoring roads in first week of October. We haven't done this journey before but have visited Mont Dore area driving down from Paris.
Prefer no autoroutes for this section of the trip. Someone suggested a stopover in Angoulême but that is too short for the day
I like back roads but struggle finding a good routing app that accept multiple waypoints on the route . Google maps does but Waze doesn't as far as I know. I do prefer Waze on Carplay.
Thx

Living half way between the two, I'd suggest that the more interesting landscapes and roads start south of Angouleme/Limoges so I'd do the northern part of the journey on faster, straighter roads. I've had some pretty tedious attempts at finding interesting roads avoiding Poiters when I've not been in a hurry. Lots of 30km/h limits, chicanes and speed humps in the villages.
One option - leave the A10 at Poiters south, Confolens, Rochechouart, Brantome. Try and avoid the centre of Periguex if not stopping there.
Or off the A10 at Chatellerault, Chauvigny, Bellac, Limoges, St Yrieux La Peche, more single carriageway roads, without being too slow, but not great landscape until beyond Limoges.
The named towns might be interesting break points, particularly Brantome and Chauvigny.
How long are you in Sarlat? Nothing wrong with getting there earlier in the day and exploring roads and villages locally, there is a lot to see around there.

Thanks for that info. We aren’t ones for the larger towns so tend to avoid them.
We are in Sarlat for two nights and then a night in Issigeac before heading back through to Saulieu for one night.
Our usual visit to Château des Milandes and others along the river is on the cards (just nostalgia for visits in the past)
It all depends on the weather though.
Looking forward to the roads on our next trip when we go down to Castellane and the gorges down that area and onto Eze or maybe Sault area. We just love the French roads!
