I've been battling to get my boot lid to sit nicely on both sides and can get the passenger side OK but the driver's side sits a too high. I've heard this is a common issue and is in part due to the boot strut being on the driver's side only.

However, I've noticed that my boot hinges are quite different and not just mirror images of each other. The forward lower arm curves differently between each side. Maybe this affects how that side sits folded with the strut compressed.

Are these hinges correct or have I got a mis-matched pair? I was looking at the hinges on Motaclan (U2690 and U2691) and was wondering if these, with a strut on each side, would help with the fitment of the boot lid.

Has anyone fitted these to a mk1?

The top picture is the same as my Tamora, and the same as the second hand Chim MK3 ones I purchased, (which run with twin struts). I ended up buying new ones (from two different traders) ...they are Ford Escort Cabrio parts V91AB L42712AB, 13AB. IF you need the hinge, and, (I should have the Chim struts) I have a spare of the side that you need to match the top one. A@

I'm not sure MOTOCLAN have got that correct ..... Tuscan Convertibles have two struts (one either side) but I'm sure ALL MK2s only had a strut at one side to avoid the petrol cap ... Maybe a MK2 owner can confirm ?

I've fitted the later hinges from the convertible that have a strut on both sides to even things up, still needs a bit of fettling but they work a lot better than the original single strut versions

Motaclan never had one of the sides to buy anyway...(that single strut is 550N), I have never thought to check the Chim ones for N and or change the Tamora from 1 to 2 struts (I should take a look at the Chim ones, to see if the Tamora needs twin). A@

Those look a bit like peugeot bonnet hinges, might be worth looking for part numbers on them as I expect they bought them in.

IIRC The convertible pair are the bonnet hinges from a FORD KA hehe
My struts have gone weak again , so a new set of stainless variable pressure( 450Nm)ones from METROL installed last week ... they have stopped making the short 8mm barrel ones , so had to use 6mm barrel.

I could never understand MK2/MK3 Targas with the "Whale" boot spoiler only being supported by one 550 Newton Metre strut , must put a lot of force on the hingesmile

I've replaced my hinges before , because of the lateral movement ... they're just crudely "rivetted" together

Keith ...that is the truth. I replaced mine for new as the inner pivot bearings were shot enough for me to be peeved. Here is the KA part 3S51-F42700-AC (new item pictured from an Ebay item) that actually looks like the other side picture too.

They're only holding a small roof cover on the StreetKa so not surprising that they're not up to the job for the Tuscan boot. At least the Escort ones on the targa are designed to support a boot panel.

I'm guessing the earlier targa hinges could be retro-fitted with the lower gas strut ball mounts and converted to the double short gas struts.

I thought later ones had a modified version of the targa hinge with 2 mounts for short struts. They couldn't fit two earlier style long struts originally because of the petrol cap.
