New bike day - Ducati Streetfighter V2
Discussion
Hi all
Picked up my replacement bike this week. A 2022 Ducati streetfighter V2. What a thing. I've always wanted to own some exotica. To make this happen I sold two bikes to make one.
I sold my BMW S1000XR which I adored but I'd just grown tired of. It was my second one and after 5 years of ownership across two of them I was ready to sample something else. I also barely rode it unless I knew I was doing a full days riding, even then I occasionally took the second bike. I also sold my Triumph speed twin 1200. A cracking bike, and it was the bike I rode 99% of the time. Loved riding it. It was an awesome spec and I was sad to see it leave but I was craving something more.
So without further delay:

AI removed a car in the background for me here:

Originally I was after a V4 but I rode one and it was mental. I couldn't help but feel that I was either going to get in trouble or worse on it. Also that it was more about bragging rights rather than useability. You could barely touch the top end of the revs on the public road. In my opinion it was too much bike for my skill level and buying it only satisfied the kid in me! Therefore I resorted to looking at V2's. I rode one at the ABR 2 years back and I fell in love with it.
This particular one was a nice spec:
5800miles
Arrow exhaust system with decat
Mapped to suit
Fly screen
Rad protectors
DBK clear clutch cover
What a thing. Initially I rode it home with the Speed Twin fresh in my mind. I was a little taken aback by how good the torque was low down on the Speed Twin as the SF has almost none. But get it climbing into the revs and it's a different beast. It loves to rev basically. You have to ride it differently. Speed Twin could just plod along in any gear and use the bottom end. That's not the case on the SF. Now that's learnt its a great thing to ride.
It's extremely vibey. Unbelievably so. For me though, that's what I want from a bike that's a toy. Some character, something of an event to ride.
The exhaust is loud! Even with the baffle in. It makes some cracking pops on the upshifts. I do miss the overrun burbles of the Speed Twin!
I need to add some heated grips. Not that I ride in the winter but on the colder dryer days they're nice to have.
The plan was to attempt to take this to Germany next year on tour but I don't see that happening! Lack of fuel guage being a major draw back! Why?!

Stunning bike mate. Respect for going for the V2 as opposed to the V4 - I think that would be my choice too, you can enjoy the engine a lot more without fear of being nicked every time you open the throttle!
I tend to agree. On paper the v4 just begs to be bought, but in practice too much potential left on the table on the road.I've got the new Panigale V2s and it's a cracker. Less HP than the OP's but so much grunt where I want it on the road.
Looks great OP, and it's great to scratch the Ducati itch!
That really looks the part, completely agree about the V4, just pub bragging rights really as against real world usability and pace. The fuel gauge if it's like a Hypermotard is no big deal. Yes. it doesn't have one till the fuel light comes on then it gives you a trip countdown on reserve. Usually safe for 30 miles or thereabouts. Don't let that stop you touring on it! Great buy, congrats.
Thanks for the encouragement all.
I went out last night and had a good hour on it down my usual winding test route. Really starting to gel with it. I always think it takes 3 or 4 rides to really become one with the bike and understand the feel of it. Fuel light came on with it's own trip meter so that was decent. I can live with that.
Do i miss the BMW - no
Do i miss the Triumph - mildly
Would i go back and make the same decision - yes!
As for the looks - I agree in some regards these aren't a pretty bike but from some angles they are. Very marmite I think. However, when I'm riding it I'm not looking at it!

Is that a 2025 on model? Have you ridden old and new as a comparison?
Yes it is
No I didn't ride the 24MY, The 25 does feel lighter underneath you (eg having swung my legs across both) but physical reach & pegs felt similar.
I'm happy with my choice for my style of riding although did look longingly prior to purchase at a green 24

Enjoy yours
