Thought was about Gaza & Ukraine. (Where we let them die).

As you were.

that took a ghoulish turn - from people with motor neurone disease being let go to the ether onto grandparents doing the usual "we don't want to be a burden" routine being afforded the same kindness. But, dear reader, if you want granny to live then we're going to need mass immigration to pay for it. Funny thing though, it's usually granny who is opposed to mass immigration so....

I'd seen this mentioned elsewhere.

It's thinking like this (plus all the prior real world examples) that justify the slippery slope arguments people make about why you can't have any legalisation of this stuff; once the answer isn't *NO* there's just so much scope for creep.

And there's still plenty of people out there with views common in earlier times who'll happily use it to pursue their ideas for a better world.

As was said elsewhere the mask has slipped, and Oli Dugmore for one has shown once again that they're a turd.

Christ knows how that got published. Sort of conversation you have when pissed as a student. Thinks he's Jonathan Swift but comes across like a bellend.

There's a respectable case for assisted dying. This won't help

Has "Fabians" replaced WEF and Davos as a new entry on the bellend bingo card?

The problem with proposing or framing legislation is while you can be inspired by those with the best intentions, you have to assume that some people will have the worst.

And quite a few with bad intent will have convinced themselves they're doing it for generous reasons or for some greater good.

Others are just selfish antisocial s who'd happily put Granny in the oven just for existing.

I'll leave it open which type Oli is.

Er wtf!

"Assisted dying would appear to mitigate some of those problems, curbing the pensions bill, the NHS bill and the care bill."

Wonder when he'd start talking about curbing the welfare bill by adding the disabled or unemployed or socially undesirable to the list?

If you're willingly doing it for some it's not exactly a big stretch to the others.

The idea is wrong full stop. Once you're comfortable with the idea of killing people to save money & effort, then you're already too far gone.

From a purely economical perspective, he’s not wrong. Kind of grim to put it in monetary terms, I agree.

But am I missing a subtle message in there, like other people being able to make the decision for you? Because otherwise it just sounded like the usual argument for people being allowed to determine their own destiny - even if it’s to preserve wealth for the kids.

No, The NS was founded by Fabian's (who had a soft spot for Eugenics). The more things change...

Oli Dugmore is about 30 I'd say (he keeps his age well hidden), he's 'very good with words'... The End.

Sadly, he has the influential ear of the young (well, some of them). I'm not young. He says petty things like 'Ban Boomers'.

I like to think I'm still good with words too.
If he gets his way (he won't), way before he reaches anywhere near my age, the generation(s) following him may be even more controversial than him!
Perhaps they'll go further than his pathetic conclusions: 'Joe's heading for old, he's reached 60. Be rid of him and everyone that age and beyond, they're of no use.'

Be careful what you wish for is, and always has been, excellent advice.

Oli.

If you want to see this in stark terms, these documents may be of interest https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/termina...
Savings on palliative care are around page 80 of the second one. I’ve not looked at the first.

Worth saying that the Health Secretary voted no at the third reading and I believe has consistently voted no.

Similarly imaginative thinking about the optimisation of society into a machine (brave new world esque) is also what led scientists in the USA to get so excited about eugenics around a century ago.

Isn’t it terrifying how collectivism has become so vogue to the point of trampling on the last vestiges of individualism.

I wonder of wealth inequality correlates with collectivism?

What we need is rights for individualism, but amazing how quickly it’d be used to push collectivist ‘benefits’ onto those rights to save us all money rolleyes
