OBD2 Trouble Scanning

Hi all, I'm just looking for a bit of advice.
My car (2013 Vauxhall Corsa 1.0l) was in the garage earlier in the week and during the diagnostic stage they tried using an OBD2 scanner to find any fault codes. They told me their scanners has trouble getting any information from the OBD2 port, which is a little worrying.
My questions are; what could be causing this?
And is this likely to be an issue come MOT time?
I'm aware that some MOT stations use the OBD2 port during the emissions test to achieve the correct revs.
If they have any trouble connecting their device will they just perform the test manually?
