I'm now looking for a new TV after our 12 year old Samsung has finally given up the ghost.
There look to be decent deals to be had at Richer Sounds on both Samsung and LG units. How do they compare against eachother or are pretty much the same?
As a curveball, Mitchell and Brown. What are they all about???

Didn't both LG and Samsung sign a deal were they share each others panels to some extent, so it's much of a muchness.
I'm in the LG camp, not out of loyalty but because it was cheap and the same TV remote controls my LG Blu-ray and soundbar so it's convenient. Might be something to consider if you have other Samsung devices attached.
Can't fault Richer Sounds though. Very good company to deal with.

There's a tv repair guy on YouTube who reckons Samsung have gone from being one of the best to one of the worst in terms of reliability and longevity.
Mitchell & Brown sets are made in Turkey by Vestel and are decidedly budget TVs albeit with a long warranty....it remains to be seen if those warranties are worth the paper they're written on

You know it. I had an LG 50 inch, lasted only 4 years before the backlights gave up, was good up till then though. I'm sure I was just unlucky, but it's put me off buying LG again.I prefer the Samsung interface, mostly Samsung here.
But Freeview Play is good on our Lg one (only freeview & a few apps here). Freeview Play isn t available on Samsung..

I have had Samsung TVs for years and 2 high spec in the last 2 years but now that we no longer watch linear TV I find the Samsung HDMI source switching to be really frustrating as it takes many seconds to decide that there is a signal on any particular HDMI input even if the device was powered up first. The delay makes switching between sources really annoying.

Was going to say the same thing. The UI is (or was) better on the Samsung than the LG. But Freeview Play is good on our Lg one (only freeview & a few apps here). Freeview Play isn t available on Samsung..

You won't regret it.
You will need to pair it with a decent soundbar to really enjoy it.
This - I have an LG55CX model and the picture is amazing in both HD and 4K. The sound is a bit crap though so you definitely need a soundbar or something like that. The picture quality is amazing.

I live in a semi with suspended timber floors.I have large floor standing speakers on granite plinths to provide isolation + surround sound speakers.... I don't have a subwoofer..... neighbours say they can't hear anything
Every LG we've ever had has a been a disappointment from the user interface to little things like boot up time.
Our one in the kitchen is so slow. It takes ages and then when it finally does kick into life it has the annoying habit of insisting it show you which channel your viewing for what seems like forever before you're allowed to change.

Funny, just came here to say my 2019 samsung q85 OS is far nicer to use than the 2024 LG i've got. The LG insists on asking me if i want to update the software when i turn it on. That's a big no-no in my book. I didn't turn the TV on to do babysitting, so f
k off LG and sort that out. Also on samsung a very nice feature is from each app e.g. netflix I can jump directly to a programme I was watching last, whereas on the LG i have to actually go into the app.

I was going to post exactly the same thing. A decade ago they used to be the best, now you will be lucky to get four or five years out of a Samsung before the back light fails. All the made in Turkey Vestel TVs you buy in the supermarket using old manufacturers names (Toshiba, Sharp, Blaupunkt, Goodmans, JVC, Bush, Hitachi etc.) are absolute rubbish and land fill after a couple of years.
HiSense are little better, again built with the cheapest components going, glued together and impossible to repair. It will be land fill for a 50 pence capacitor.
Probably best off buying it from Richer Sounds as at least you will get a six year warranty on some TVs if you join their VIP club.
He did say the brand he sees least of is Sony, make of that what you will.
I bought a 77" Samsung TV in Dec 2024. Tomorrow, the 5th attempt at replacement is supposed to be arriving...
Manufacturing defects, replaced item then had screen failure, then entire failure and last week's 2025 upgraded replacement was damaged in transit. I would say the quality is down as the 55" old Samsung still works fine after 13 years.

My 50" Samsung lasted 2 years 3 weeks before the backlights went.
A relatively easy fix iffffff you don't break the casing trying to get to them.
Binned it and replaced with a Panasonic which I like apart from the right arrow to show you what's on next info only shows what's on next and not what's on after + after + after. If you get my drift.
