In a predicament, hoping for some wise advice
Discussion
Hi all,
I am barreling into late 20s, previously very uneducated but I have been working on this the last few years and I am currently half way through an Accounting degree - it is part time so it taking 4 years. I am in the heart of Surrey so getting bent over on every bill that exists.
In the meantime, I have been on minimum wage since I was 16. I do 42.5 hours currently and it is just not enough. I have found it very difficult to find a second job as the opportunities are just not there.
I ideally need to get some proper money flowing in. Debating hitting the bottom of the barrel and delivering for Amazon as a contractor at £170 per day for 5 days and chopping the current job in - however I really do not want to do this.
I need to clear about £34k. Does anyone have an idea on a low barrier to entry to achieve this without selling my soul?
Some other options are to leave my 8-5 (Warehouse) for an earlier one to facilitate a 5-11
I also signed up for Amazon flex as that would be ideal but I m on the waitlist so.
Bit lost, I m really locked down with this studying but without it I will never get out. Watching the bills stack and the income doesnt move.

My lad was going to work as a delivery driver for Yodel or one of those sorts, the contract was shocking. Basically they could tell you when and where to work and you had to expenses everything.
It’s hard at the moment, I work in construction and it’s really slow on the jobs side. Good luck with whatever you do and well done for wanting to better yourself.

Firstly, well done on taking on the education and improving yourself.
Sounds like you've got a couple of years left in this situation so there is light at the end of the tunnel.
Anything you can remove from your spend / bills? Off the top of my head examples: Cancel the Sky package or remove any consumer finance (Like a car loan for example).
Next is to maximize your earning and learning time.
What does your average day look like? How do you split study time from working time? Any way to be flexible to do some gig work on the side like Uber eats driving or something?
I don't know the field you are wanting to enter (But presumably a finance department somewhere?) Are there any entry level roles you could approach folks on with your story to see if they'll give you a shot earlier than passing your degree?

Thank you for the kind words. It has been quite the journey and as it turns out, rather tough later in life. Life lesson you can hand your kids! Sounds like you've got a couple of years left in this situation so there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Besides a car loan (£9k total, £5k left) The only thing I have outside a genuine expense is Netflix, and even that is the one with ads! I will happily bin the car but I will need to change the job first as it is not accessible by the poverty bus.
Work 8-5 Monday to Friday, studying in London 6-9 3 evenings a week, fitting in home study where I can. Nothing on the weekend. Have been actively looking for weekend work and open to using the other two evenings in the week too but the area is really struggling for work at the moment and part time rarely comes up.
End goal is accountant, so I have the professional quals to do yet before the situation really improves, but I have already started so hopefully can get a head start.
I have applied to the accounts assistant stuff etc etc but they appear very competitive as I havent made it pass interview yet - plus the pay for them sucks so I have to cherry pick at the moment.
Depending on your skills might be worth looking at temp. agencies. I packed in my job in July and have been doing agency work (cheffing) since and there is more work than I want. Just been booked for stuff in November.
The agency I am with (the blue pointy one) cover all sorts of roles and weekend work pays a premium.
If you can do the job no one cares about qualifications.

Your circumstances seem to have changed quickly. only a couple of months ago you gave this advice on house ownership and your seemingly significant investments....
"
, I sold mine last year.
I can make more out of other investment options, I like to move about, I like to not have to deal with maintenance and I’m rich enough the minor difference between rent and mortgage is negligible."
surprised you didn't pay off your car loan with your investment cash?

Yes that is called talking nonsense and cope lies - pretty common on forums. Appreciate the FBI background check though. "

Home delivery driver for Tesco etc. is around 30k p.a, give or take a bit of overtime, and you can do shifts to leave part of the day free for studying, or other work.
I looked at Ocado the other day but It appeared they rotate the shifts so it wasn’t a good fit for me, will have a look at the others. Thanks
