Last week when I filled up with Optimax it was 98.88p per litre , tonight its :censored: 1.09 per litre :yikes: Cooking Unleaded is only 96.9 per litre.

13p per litre difference, taking the :censored: or what.

I've said it before, but I think it bears saying again; Optimax is rubbish. It's inconsistent and overpriced. I've bought tanks that were like rocket fuel, and tanks that felt like I'd accidentally filled up with diesel.

BP Ultimate seems to cost slightly more, but seems to be a lot more consistent. I now usually only buy 97, and give the Optimax a miss.

As i've said at another place we both know (before it turned into PlaySchool for chavs) my experience is the exact opposite

Optimax or Esso SUL for me. Local Shell garage has a consistent 6p per litre difference twixt 95 and Optimax.

VPower Racing 100 is what we should be getting anyway.

Agree on the price difference - and Optimax is never advertised until you get to the pumps.

Pulled in the other day seeing U/L at about 90, thinking SUL would be ok, but it was a quid a litre.

Personally I can't find any consistent difference between any of the SULs, I reckon it's all smoke and mirrors. Sainsbury's SUL that I am currently using makes the car run smoothly and boost well, as have some tanks of Opti and Tesco 99 RON. Have had bad tanks from all garages as well. I now use the cheapest SUL I can find.

But as you say the trouble is the price is only on the pumps and not visible from off the forecourt.

I paid 95.9 per litre for a tank of Optimax on Sunday in Manchester at the Shell on Regent Road. I found that Optimax makes the World of different in the Golf. Never ran the CTr on anything else so couldn't say. It's worth it for the detergent capability let alone the minor performance increase IMHO.
