Insuring 4 cars - recommendations
Discussion
Nothing wildly exotic, Boxster, small Audi, Saab and an old Toyota.
Admiral continues to raise its prices now every year and I’ve been with them a decade.
I’d like to get them insured as a job lot with the minimum of hassle.
No claims or convictions, good area etc.
Welcome any recommendations. Thanks

If anycan be categorised as classics or modern classics, by far the cheapest way I have found is to have one 'main car with NCB etc, & insure everything else on classic policies
Classic insurance can be absurdly cheap. £100/car cheap.
Old cars can be cheap as part of a multicar policy too.Classic insurance can be absurdly cheap. £100/car cheap.
I was on Admiral multicar for years but switched to a Footman James Flex policy last year which had better coverage.
Gone with a mix of Admiral and Aviva multicar this year as I had a claim and FJ declined to renew

I tried classic insurance for my 996 earlier in the year but ultimately Admiral came out better.
I have a 2024 ENY:1 and 996 insured with Admiral
Megane 225 Cup insured on a modified car policy with Greenlight
E91 330i insured with Sheila's Wheels.
Hopefully this time next year I will only have one or two cars.

Don't accept Admiral renewal prices, shop round then ring Admiral back. They somehow found £155 discount for me!
This - hey quoted me £920 on renewal for the Ferrari and Ioniq5n both for business use on a multi care policy. After calling, I am now paying £680. The Ferrari is under £200!Mabozza said:
my multicar policy is due for renewal next month.
the challenge I have found in the past, is Admiral is the only one that offers quotes online - do others now offer online quotes for multicar policies?
FJ wouldn’t for me, I have one classic policy with them and another car over 25 years old, I got an online quote for another policy from them but didn’t proceed as it was more than a Go Compare list of quotes on standard policy.the challenge I have found in the past, is Admiral is the only one that offers quotes online - do others now offer online quotes for multicar policies?
FJ rang me back afterwards and said ring up and ask to add it to your policy, odd I thought as you rang me so why can’t you look into it.
I did ring but the quote went up more than a new policy on GC as above, plus the mileage is then combined between the 2 cars for the year not that any go near the limit.
So I have 2 normal car policies with NCB every year, 1 classic car policy with FJ and a van on a separate policy, all 4 individually worked better for me but no one size fits all, so it’s best to play around and work out the better way.
[quote=Mr Tidy]They all jack prices up every year, so I generally change insurer every year!
Ha Ha very funny, no they do not all jack up prices every year!! i am with a broker who has looked after me for many years and it keeps getting cheaper but i suppose all the keyboard wariors who use marketing companies like compare the market, et al all know best
As mentioned above if you have older future classic policies that are low miles per year look for a scheme/company who specialise in those risks.

Personally I'd run them all via compare the meerkat or similar. Multicar is a pain; they woo you in with a teaser rate, then whack you next year and you're left having to insure them all on the same day somewhere else. Works for some, but I wish I'd never gotten involved.
You'll have to enter the details of all the cars/drivers anyway each year to make sure you're getting the right deal, so frankly paying is only a small additional effort.
You could go with a proper broker and they'd sort out competitive quotes for you but you could still do better yourself if you can set time aside to run quotes and pay. Depends how much you value the lack of hassle.

Which broker?
Start with the likes of Howden ( the old A plan ) - from memory their Thatcham office. Any broker will only be as good as the Insurers they represent on their so called panel and if you approach the HNW brokers whilst they will all have access to the likes of ZPC and Chubb , and whilst the cover will be first class so will the premiums , and the minimum values / cars needed won’t be for everyone.
We were with Admiral multicar for years. Every year they raised the premium, we got other quotes and went back to Admiral who matched the lowest. Last year we warned them this was the last time.
Renewal came out and it was 15% up. Got a much cheaper quote from L&V, cancelled Admiral.
Just had the renewal from L&V - 12% cheaper than last year. Auto renewed.
