Hi,
On my Griff' at sometime in its life a swirl pot from a later model has been fitted, the little over flow tank outlet has been sealed up.
It works fine but I would like to restore it to how it was originally.
No problems with the cooling just the swirl pot don't look right and the large inlet pipe is very close to the dizzy which has made the HT lead runs awkward.

Here are a couple of pics first showing the current set up and the second showing how I believe it was in originaly in 1992.

Anyone seen the OE swirl pot for sale anywhere or got one they want to part with?

Cheers
Lance

I saw your first reply Mark, Thanks.

I have tried to join their Web site but the process is not working. Do they still trade?

Seems to be a lot of multi postings today - doubt its an IT issue biglaugh

I'd avoid those original / factory items with a brass screw cap that weld themselves to the alloy. ACT with the VAG blue screw cap is reliable.

If you'd like to sell on your existing one send me a message. I have a shiny dollar awaiting biggrin

I agree, I would keep the VW pressure release cap and If and when I get an OE pot I'll get in touch.

I only replied once, not sure why it double posted for me!

Yes they're still trading, perhaps give them a call and speak to Tim, he's a very helpful chap.

Hi Lance, pictured here is my May 92 car with original swirl pot, the same style of top hose as yours but without the extra sealed up spigot.

Thanks for that Steveclap.

Your HT cabling is much tidier, and using your photo I'll see if I can match it.

I can see the cable from the coil looks neater, mine may have have been fitted the wrong way round in the past and I've just coppied it when I renewed the leads recently.

Which means I may not replace my swirl pot.

Nearly forgot, ACT are out of stock of the pot without the expansion tank stub but expecting some soon.

Cheers

I tried to follow your HT cable routes where I could follow them on your photo.
But
Well it may be an illusion Steve but I don't have as much clearance between the underside of the pot tube and the dizzy cap where the cable seal pushes over.
I would guess about 25mm.

Hi Lance, that is a bit tighter than mine, on No.1 cylinder I do have about 5mm clear under the pipe, my Magnecor leads are quite flexible and have about 25mm deflection down at that point from the pipe, my rubber seals could be shorter? The leads are a bit fatter diameter than originally fitted as well. I am using 3 spacer bars to keep the cables dressed, originals plus as supplied with the leads.

Always thought a 90 degree end at the dizzy would have been better on No.1, although never had any running problems with the current set up.

I noticed in your comparison picture of the 430 engine with the high neck that even that does have a 90 deg dizzy end on No.1. Food for thought?

I measured from the top of the front mounting bracket to the upper pot surface where the filler is and is exactly 7" , could your pot be slightly shorter in height? I dont think there is much in it from what I can see, let me know if you need any more dims or pics.

So even the early Pots have been made different over the years.

What I'm thinking about now is buying some more cables or modifying the one I have so the outlets that are beneath the Pot inlet tube all to be 90 degree ones whether they go to the left or right bank of cylinders.

No rush, car is sorned now till next April.

cool

I'm keeping my current swirl pot now I've tidied up the leads to the NS engine bank. Still not a lot of room but better especially with right angle
terminals.

Outcome is peeps who offered me an early pot, people that wanted the pot with the overflow outlet. Thanks but I'm not buying or selling.thumbup
