Epoxy Floor - Which is best - Water Based or Solvent Based? (I presume it's solvent based?)

Floor Preparation - Self Levelling Compound - Which is best - Acid Etching or Grinding - What Grade Grit 40 / 80?

Any recommendations for a supplier ?

Any other advice / suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Following as looking for something similar for a garage floor we're re-pouring. I've seen resincoat have a fairly comprehensive solvent product line but don't know if it's more just flash marketing.

I'm not that familiar with floor coatings, but a lot of epoxy has neither water nor solvent.

I used epoxy paint from Regal and it's been pretty bombproof.

It's been down for 10 years and has withstood all the things I've done to it.

Also used Regal 2 pack, no issues and almost four years old. Added some coloured flakes and metal flake for a bit of an aesthetic lift to the clear coat.

Hired a grinder to prep a fresh slab. Filthy horrible job, but very effective.

Epoxy onto self levelling compound vis a vis concrete -

It'll be the same preparation ?

I'm asking because the self levelling has a smooth finish.

Not sure, Epoxy does require a key...but a grinder may be a bit aggressive.

Probably best off checking paint manufacturers advice rather than potentially ruining your nice flat smooth floor.

Whatever you decide preparation is the key. You will need to see what the manufactures say. Different materials will react differently. So it isn't just a question of getting a self levelling compound it is the need to get the self levelling compound that works with the epoxy you decide to use. Grinding may well work but it needs to be dust free if the levelling compound is going to adhere to the existing surface.
