Not for me as just bought the 2024 v12 TT from HWM, and love it, but as a keeper would this not be a great deal

I think I d rather have this than a New Vantage.
A pity it s not LHD.
They re much more expensive this side of the channel sadly.
Edited: just saw this one has been written off in the past so no thanks!

Never seen one priced that low but then I noticed it is “Cat S”. As you say it could be a shrewd buy for someone who wants to take the risk, get it checked over/fixed if necessary, and then keep it. Personally I think I would steer well clear. BRM.

It is strange that it has been written off by an insurer, because the description states;
'an impressive 204kg of downforce at top speed for unparalleled stability'.

The only reference to repairs that I could find are;
'new adaptive dampers'

We have seen the after photographs.
I wohnder if there are before pictures on a Copart website?

EDIT
A check on the DVLA website does not appear to reveal 'Cat S'.
Surely that is just the data source which should reveal such information?

It's a beautiful car but what made it a Cat S write off? Just how much structure or suspension damage did this car take. Sometime it can be very minimal so perhaps worth a punt but will also be worth knowing who did those repairs and to what standard?

I remember seeing the written off version of this with Gumball stickers all over it.

It had a lot of panel damage on carbon panels. wonder how much filler is in it now?

Does look lovely! Will try and find the before photos

Based on the above and in the hope it had been repaired correctly it looks like a bargain. I wonder why it was written off in the first place, it doesn't look that bad so far ... are there any other pictures?

when you compare the one I bought, 2024 plate, 6k miles and I got it for £175,000 then this is quite expensive for an S Cat. Photo of mine, love the green leather interior with full carbon pack

Your car looks amazing Stephen.
I think the risk of buying a Cat S car is not worth it, especially compared to the deal you've been able to get on yours.

+1 on both counts...

Wouldn't touch a Cat S car with a barge pole even if is was free, let alone forking out £150k for one!

Different car. That is a V8. The car in the OP is a V12TT. Compare the front wing behind the wheel arch, and the shape of the splitter, plus the narrower and shorter headlight, to that on a V12TT (three posts up).

Are you sure about that? Looks like a picture of the passenger side rear wheel to me. Most of which isn’t clearly visible in the AT listing funnily enough. rolleyes BRM.

I think if an average repair bill of 50-60% of the market value arises, then insurers consider a car to be beyond economic repair, Cat S.

From what we can see in the photo, would the damage really have cost £80,000 to repair?

In Pakistan, it would have only taken a few hours to make it look like new. No Cat S.

I was sure, but now I have become fairly sure that that is as you say the near side rear and not the offside front. getmecoat

Having watched that, he seems to have been willing to take a punt on the Aston on the basis of a visual appraisal of the exterior damage - at one point he says he doesn t know why it s been written off and would love to see the report.

Cat S means chassis damage AIUI. That era of Vantage has an aluminium chassis. From what I remember of once reading about aluminium, once it bends, you get a crease in it. You can straighten it but the crease never goes away, and remains and inherent weakness. If therefore the chassis was bent I wonder whether it s the case that it can be straightened but retain weak spots (bad); the alternative is to replace the chassis (not viable?).

Also noticed that the AT ad is by a “private seller” in Hitchin; the business behind the YouTube maker is based in … Hitchin. Private seller? Hmm.

That certainly looks like the car in question. There are no further updates on either his YouTube page or his Instagram page to indicate whether he did go ahead and purchase it but as BlackTails said the advert/seller evidence would suggest he did. As I said further up the thread the fact it is a “Cat S” would have been be enough to put me off, but the video cements that decision. I wonder if it will sell? Surely any prospective buyer would want to get an inspection done pre purchase, and perhaps, if you pardon the pun, that could be where the wheels fall off. smile
BRM.
