Novice question
Discussion
Bit of a novice question here. I want to purchase a 1:18 scale Porsche 911 however the model is in the wrong colour so I would need to paint it to match the colour I want so two questions really
1. What’s the best way of painting it just an aerosol can or do I need an air brush
2. Where would you be able to get replacement decals for the bonnet badge etc.
Thanks

Hi Coxey,
Of course the answer is not straightforward! Which model do you want to repaint?
To paint the model a different colour (nicely) you need to strip it down to the component parts and prepare the parts to be painted before going ahead.
If they are a resin-type material you’ll need to be more careful as they may be fragile. Typically you would need to either strip the original paint completely, or “key” the surface with fine sandpaper or similar and use a suitable primer which will cover the old paint and is suitable for the material size.
You’re right, spray cans are the easiest way but they take a little practice to get a nice finish. I’m sure there are many tutorials on line and many much more experienced painters than me on this site.
Also remember the body may need detail painting things such as trim lines or window rubbers.
There are many decal sets available, for example:
